Extensive Multiplayer help needed...

Post by kratos000 »

Hello all! I am new to warzone 2100, and am in the middle of the second campaign. This game rocks! I was trying to set up a multiplayer match with my brother, but I don't really know what I am doing...

-We're both running Mac OS X 10.4 (Tiger) and have the latest updates.
-I looked into Gamespy Arcade, but it only works on Windows.
-Obviously, we share an internet connection.
-We're both using Warzone 2100 version 2.0.10, which we downloaded here.

I tried looking for a multiplayer section in the wiki, but I couldn't find one (if I missed it please just redirect me there)
I really need help regarding IP addresses and connections because I'm rather unfamiliar with it. That and maybe some help with the setup.

Anyway, your help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

Hmm, I am not sure 2.0.x even works on the Mac?
I would get this: http://download.gna.org/warzone/release ... a3-ari.dmg
And give that a spin.
We don't use, not can we use gamespy.

What happens is this. One person hosts games, and then (assuming all ports 9997-9999 are open, and no router issues), then you will broadcast the game to the master server. Then a player when they hit the lobby button/text will see the game you made. Then they connect that way.

If on a LAN, then no need for that, you just host the game, set it up how you want it. (Tech level 1 - 3, map, whatever else) and then your friend enters in your lan machines IP # after they hit the ip/button/text.

Then he should see you, and then you can both click on 'ready' (the square box on the right side), and off you go.

We are also in dire need of MAC play testers, so we can test linux + windows + mac people all in the same game. If you have some free time over the weekend, we can sure use your help.
Just go to the IRC channel #warzone2100 on freenode, and say you have a Mac, and you want to test the Beta 3 netcode. Hopefully, a dev will be around (Most are in Europe, and we have timezone issues...)

Multiplayer support under OS X goes something like this:
  • 2.0.x: PPC mac to other PPC macs; Intel mac to 32-bit Linux/Windows users.
  • 2.1.0-beta1/2: PPC mac to other PPC macs; Intel macs to any Linux/Windows user.
  • 2.1.0-beta3: PPC/Intel mac to any Linux/Windows users.
As of 2.1-beta3 the lobby should also be functional under OS X.

Regards, Freddie.

wow. thanks for all the help!

I would love to help out with testing betas, but i don't know very much about compiling, and this weekend is bad for me.
I will definitely help out in the future if you need me to though.

I do not think this is a problem as I am sure that the devs will help you with that :)
Your help is appreciated. :D
