What a relief!

Post by Vermaxes »

I used to play this game all the time when it first came out. To this day I still don't understand the appeal and hype for games like Starcraft and Total Annihilation, etc...this is the best rts game in my opinion. So it was so great to see that other people still play it too when I decided to look it up again and try to get some online games going!
If anyone is interested in setting up a time to play, let me know.

Thanks guys!

Lol - woops...you're right, I meant RTS.

How do you guys generally get a game started? Share IP or ...?

Sorry, I don't mean to sound like such an idiot...just coming back after a few years, I don't quite remember how to get a game going with anyone else. Any help is appreciated - thanks!

Since it is difficult to find an already opened game when you are in the lobby, you just have to find players and host a game yourself. Just contact them via instant messaging, or in WZ IRC chat, or in xfire, then decide who will host. When he has opened a game, you can see it in the lobby, just click to join and have fun.

If you want to play lan-games, you have to insert host's lan ip, with Direct Connect. It's just the same, other than you can't see your game in the lobby.

Isn't it possible to add a Lobby feature for LAN Games?

I dont think it is possible right now, if you want a lobby all of the lan-connected computers need an internet connection

We'd have to scan the whole subnet for open port 9999 and see if Warzone sits behind it...
Definitely possible somehow. Someone interested in implementing that would have to find out how to get all the machines in the subnet from SDL_net, then try to connect to every machine on port 9999 and try to handshake with the possible warzone host.
It would also be necessary to query all interfaces, so you get really all subnets, not just the first.
And some machines might be connected to the internet directly, and thus have a subnet of /0, which should obviously be excluded, since we don't want to query the whole internet for warzone games. ;)
If someone wants to do it, that would certainly be a useful feature, do it! :)

Why do that ? :o
Just install python 2.5 on your system, and run the server code, change server address to 127.0.0.1 (in your config file), and there you have it.
That is what I do instead of typing the local LAN IP over & over.
and it ends here.

That doesn't auto discover all machines running Warzone 2100 on your LAN, does it?
And: Warzone 2100 itself runs code similar to what the lobby-server does (with the exception that it is just for this instance of the game).
To me it looks like your method will only register those games which are run on your very machine, not on any other host in your subnet.
