Hello everyone!
I'm pretty new to these forums, but I've been playing warzone 2100 for about 10 years now (on ps1 and then on pc) and I have always wondered that why doesn't anyone do a remake of this on a newer engine, like unity 3d? And yes, I have looked into some topics here where some guys have also talked about this but my idea is a little different; what I'm asking is that is anyboy interested in doing a remake of this game in, for example in this case unity 3d (or some other game engine)? I'm really not the guy to do this alone as I have very little experience in programming, and learning it would take too much time. (I DO have little experince in java and lisp (lisp through halo combat evolved scripting), and I have descent skills in modeling and animating. Of course this wouldn't be a easy project, but I would like to know if anybody is interested in this?
Question?

Re: Question?
Basically, because it is a huge amount of work. Check out the size of the team and how long it took them to make the original WZ or any other game of similar complexity. That, and the fact that re-writing from scratch is considered one of the biggest strategic errors you can make http://www.joelonsoftware.com/articles/ ... 00069.htmlI have always wondered that why doesn't anyone do a remake of this on a newer engine, like unity 3d?
IMHO, you get more bang for your buck by refactoring chunks of the code. An example would be to replace the current graphics subsystem with something like OpenSceneGraph.

Re: Question?
Hmm, why not replace the current graphics subsystem with OpenSceneGraph.? As long as it won't fry my CPU I'm fine with the update. I don't care how long it takes, just continue to improve,
See the thing is, you guys have a lot of good ideas. For example, refactoring which you mentioned, but do you actually refactor? If not, you just discover a good way to move ahead. Maybe you can buy a good 3d engine/or remake Warzone's engine as a side project. I would love to help, but I am just a lowly teenager with plenty of time with almost no programming experience. Fortunately, I am willing to learn and help even without the proper experience.
Now the Questions: What is the next update about? Is it bugs, new features, or an upgrade of sorts? Do we need to energize/bribe the programmers? Does refactoring have anything to do with the next update? Do I need to persuade my classmates to play the game(Warzone 2100 vs League of Legends). Etc.!
P.S. At least bribe the forums to be half dead.
