Kinda looks * Scavy * : Vehicles & structs from RL...
.
When I saw these for the first time it my immediate thought was "Scav Fortesses, yeah baby !"
I propose to collect in this thread any RL images of vehicles and structs that stir the exclamation - "Hey, that's hella Scavy !" Anyone is welcome to share if they come across anything. Continuing to develop scavs is part of WZ's future, I do believe, and this is part of the inspiration for that journey (the other is storytelling).

As for water placement, you just make little isles in FlaME and place 'em (or a scav chopper, or new scav hover, builder unit to a.i. script it). On continents, same procedure as other scav structs made by scav builders. Just a whimsy, at this point.
I came across them when looking at this facinating article at the Distractify web site called The 35 Most Hauntingly Beautiful Abandoned Ruins On The Planet which also made me think about dressing up WZ maps with "haunting" post apocalyptic ruins other than the stock urban buildings. Here, check these images out for yourself. They really stir the artist imagination - visually and for story smithing.

On reflection, this all appeals to my aesthetic muse which is deeply informed, in part, by Wabi-Sabi and Bricolage.

Reality is flawed; everyone knows mini-pod jeeps are supposed to be yellow
Actually, in art revolution we pretty much agreed that the mini-pod was actually based on salvaged air-to-ground rocket pods.
Btw, what is the yellow WW1-looking contraption in the second picture?

I'm afraid all I know about it, Jorzi, is that it was photographed in a Tank Graveyard in Victoria, Australia and that it forms part of my central premise for the "SAR" scav faction in my "New Pangaea SP" project. Which is to say, there are military tank and aircraft graveyards all over the planet that are scavenger resources along with civilian junked tech. Both resources are often combined in scav ingenuity-imrovisation.
I have found RL hotbeds of scav ingenuity in the Middle East, Africa, Russia, China and Mexico. Homemade tanks, APCs, aircraft, hovers, artillery, missile batteries, excavators, subs and even a Batman "Tumbler" !
This, in part, feeds into my rationale for the scav "SAR" faction in New Pangaea being able to put up such a forceful resistance to the superior ManGodAi and Project forces and thier invasion pincers. The other part of my rationale is that the scav "SAR" are also masters of tactical "Earthworks" and that thier lands of "Central Gondwana", in New Pangaea, have been shaped to favor the weaker in tech, in what is a classic asymmetric conflict which slowly phase shifts from one sides favor to the other in a bloody 3-way dance.

That's a homemade "Tumbler". So if someday Jump Borgs are "properly" re-introduced, Scavs can have thier Tumblers to get over walls.

Back in 2008 we postulated 2 things for expanding features in a WZ fork.
1.) Cargo Containers would be all over the planet in 2100 as they are today.
2.) Some Scav factions would take advantage of building their structures (including fortifications), lego-like, out of Cargo Containers instead of currugated tin and wood.
We implemented and I worked with em, making maps. They add a terrific, form serving function, dimension to the WZ GP experience. Last word from Goth on his CAM 4 creation is that he will make them a part of his project.
In recent years, Cargo Container architecture has taken off in RL.
Here's a small sampling.

Cargo containers are actually much more valuable than your average corrugated tin, since they are made of fairly thick and tough passivated steel, i.e. their rust layer becomes protective and prevents further corrosion.

Interesting. Didn't know that.Jorzi wrote:Cargo containers are actually much more valuable than your average corrugated tin, since they are made of fairly thick and tough passivated steel, i.e. their rust layer becomes protective and prevents further corrosion.
There's a successful Kickstarter deved online only MP game from 2012 called Ravaged that takes place in a post apocalyptic world of Scavengers (the devs just introduced a new game mode a couple months ago that has zombies along with the original scavs) that makes key use of Cargo Containers in gameplay.

Most of these photos actually look as if the were from the scavenger

Yeah, think I have a "feel" for the scavy since I was one as a kid growing up in a NYC ghetto.

Thought this Scavy ingeneous - the school bus as an underground troop barracks ?
Here it was used to create a storm shelter.

Some Rocky Mountain scavs repurpose school buses as nomadic, migratory, dwellings instead of anchored shacks or log cabins ? Winters spent in lower, warmer, elevations. Summers in the cooler, highest, elevations. Plus, other factions are never sure of getting an exact fix on thier encampments.
