So sad, really. The headline caught my google search for one of our wiki pages, and I thought I'd share it.

Wow. Detroit's been in a world of hurt in the same context as well.
I am surprised that the author would use this particular title though.

.
Brings back memories of growing up in the S. Bronx & Harlem, NYC. Third World enclaves in a First World Nation. "Warzone" is an apt appellation, IMO.
Also, I think, these reported conditions in Chicago and Detroit are stark examples of the utter failure of the "War on Drugs" first declared by Richard Nixon in 1971 in conjunction with the failure of the US economy to address its manufacturing base's mass exodus overseas precipitated in the 1970s. The later may be ameliorated in time by the growth and dev of "Additive Manufacturing / 3D Printing".
An alternative to the "War on Drugs" has yet to present itself, though it does foster a growth industry in the privatization of penal institutions, the US having more of it's citizens incarcerated than any other society in the history of civilization....and the majority drug/gang related (gangs monetize mainly through drug trafficking whose conflicts, in turn, are settled through deadly violence).
