To Place a Truck or Not to place a Truck?

Post by Merowingg »

That is my question :3

Gentlemen shall I understand that in the newest FlaMe version, and on 3.1 games there is no need to place any truck for a player to make the map work? And if yes, what are the conditions?

If player starts game in "no bases" mode, then unless they have a truck / engineer they won't be able to construct any new buildings or factories. The game would still play, although it might instantly go to game over if they don't have at least one droid (of any kind) or factory.

So if I płace a tower and four tanks for example, then I still can create a map? As a result I will lose when the four tanks will be destroyed?

Yup, standard rules.js causes game over when player loses all their factories and all their droids.

I think you like me :3 :D

So let me paraphrase, If i make two player map, 1 player = tower and one tank, 2 player = tower and one tank, it will still work?

Yes it will still work.

From rules.js:

Code: Select all

factories = countStruct("A0LightFactory", playnum) + countStruct("A0CyborgFactory", playnum);
droids = countDroid(DROID_ANY, playnum);
If either factories > 0 or droids > 0, the player is considered to be alive.

In 2.x, and possibly early alphas of 3.1, the droid check used to be limited to DROID_CONSTRUCT -- so if a player had no trucks and no factories, game over for them. But that was changed a while ago to DROID_ANY.

I am 100% certain of this, I've done a *lot* of experimentation on rules.js. In recent versions of Warzone 3.1, any droid makes rules see its owner as alive.

Hrm, those must be hard-coded in the C++ code somewhere.

EDIT: Oh, is that FlaME message? If so, you could place the trucks in flame, then delete them (from droid.ini?) after compiling the map.

Yup, just realised that was a FlaME message.

IMHO it's a good check to do, because if new map maker forgets trucks and doesn't realise what happens when baseType is applied, they'll publish a map that probably won't work on CAMP_CLEAN (no bases) mode.

I'm not sure if droid.ini is a new thing or whether it's standard feature of all maps, but if FlaME uses it the trucks could be deleted from it after compiling?
