Shield Generators

Ideas and suggestions for how to improve the Warzone 2100 base game only. Ideas for mods go in Mapping/Modding instead. Read sticky posts first!

Shield Generators

The shield generator should be a defensive building that forms a bubble around the radius it covers, they cost power to keep up. Upgrades for it increase the radius and the strength of its bubble but also cost more power to keep running. When an enemy unit fires at the a unit/structure under the bubbles radius it weakens the bubble but not the unit/structure, there should be a percentage to show the Shields strength at the present time, so it would go down if units start attacking it but it recharges using power to do so. Enemy units can walk through the bubble but they cant fire into the Bubble when they are outside of it but inside nothing is stopping them. Units inside the bubble can fire outside of the bubble. Without it costing power it will not work.

Please inform me if there is a mod for this, if there is it should be implemented as soon as possible, i will get a picture i what i mean in a few days.

I made a warzone test platform for just what you ask for, it has forcefield protection for units run the release and have fun.

That will never be implemented, but you can always use mods.

Giani, why not?
In some form (Earth 2150 has quite good example...) it could be good addition for new campaigns (to have some new technologies to research there).

I think it Should, ever played Supreme commander forged alliance? in that game the shield generators need power to stay up and have very similar physics to what i have said. It works amazingly! They are not at all overpowered. But the only thing i am concerned about for people with low end computers is that the graphics may be too demanding. But i'm sure there are ways to get around that.

They could be implemented, but they would be too expensive if they would be like Steam said.

I am not saying that they had to be the way i said, someone could alter my suggestion to make it more workable.

These are some screenshots i took of a shield generator being attacked in supreme commander forged alliance, the graphics for this game is more demanding than warzone so there may be some issues with some low end computers (look at both pictures).

If this is implemented it would be nice to see a animation for the bubble being hit like a ripple, this is shown in the second picture on the link in my last post.

Some shield generators whit that graphics could make my computer go very slow :/

yes but it doesn't have to be the same graphics as that game anyway, that graphics is quite demanding so, just make it much less demanding by reducing the graphics.

Giani, really? In that other game which is nearly as old as Warzone 210 itself it worked without slow downs, although it was shown only when shooting at it.

AFAIR shield was vulnerable only for some type of weapons.

Well that looks an intriguing idea would this only be on one building though, or a building that generates a shield for a few buildings in its radius?

Steam, nope, they use multiple attachments for buildings and one is usually dedicated for shield, so each one is dedicated to one structure or unit only.
