Starting with a lab that res your chosen weapon is a lot more interesting in 3.1 than a factory.

A pure rush is the only thing that work and start with a factory. We can ask NoQ, but then, it would be FRFC with the first research being the htrack.
Heretic 2.3 improver and proud of it.

@Nameless - the wiki I use has export to PDF, Word and XML built right in, and the web pages it outputs are all XHTML compliant.

Fancy giving a it a go? If nothing else we can start getting some content published for people to look at :)

Already on it. You should have a pm waiting for you :)

As an side; I've already begun outlining a series of initial milestones that I hope to achieve. Thanks to those crazy Koreans of StarCraft progamer fame and those who proceeded us in this manner.. these initial milestones will be heavily based on the work and knowledge StarCraft as well any other relevant RTS games out there. Aside from the obvious, the list includes;
  • 1) the adoption of terms and definitions that seem relevant to WZ
  • 2) the adaption of StarCraft's Broodwar's Terran's builds into WZ builds
  • 3) the adaption of StarCraft's Broodwar's Protoss's builds into WZ builds
  • 4) the adaption of StarCraft's Broodwar's Zerg's builds into WZ builds
  • 5) the adoption / adaption of strategies and techniques that benefit many a player (another thing I see undeveloped in WZ)

Have you tested these builds in MP?

@effigy; the builds in question don't even exist yet :P but I'm hoping that they'll be. So far I've just tested one build against the easy/medium 2.3.9, and 3.1 beta 6 comps.. with a wide variety of success. I'll be posting the anything I come up with on the wiki-space provided by aubergine, my personal webspace, and possibly here. (links to be posted later).

@aubergine; fancy trying it again?

@nameless you are now space admin in the Guide space :) https://warzone.atlassian.net/wiki/display/Guide

Space can be renamed or whatever - you have full privs to do anything in there.

@Namelss, the reason I ask is that I'm not familar with SC build orders, and I'm wondering how applicable they are, and as such, if they should be advertised untested.

Sweet!.. now let's hope I don't get into too much trouble now eh?

SC builds in their original form are nowhere even compatible with WZ-type builds, but the underlying mechanics, techniques and strategies are more or less universal in any RTS game. Admittedly, many of the builds may not even be translatable but I feel that this is a step in the right direction, inspiration-wise or not.

As for being advertised untested? Well, there are those who like to live dangerously :P

Everything has to start somewhere - even if there are issues with the initial builds that are documented, it will encourage people to try new things and share their experiences, at which point the builds will get better and better.

I'm very interested in nameless' content template which includes a section on how to combat an enemy using a build, and also the section on where the build will be of most benefit - I think these, once tested and refined, will really help players gain a much deeper insight in to the various strategies and gameplay styles.

...

To those curious enough to see what happening on a more daily basis; visit http://warzone2100.zxq.net.

Taken ad verbatim; "this is my personal, albeit temporary website that serves as the launchpad of all my WZ related ideas and projects in their rawest form. This website also attempts to document anything I do WZ-related."

I created the (sub-)domain (on one of those rinky-dink site-hosters) because it better suites my general workflow and I've never liked the idea of having an overlord no matter how benign ( sorry aubergine :) ).

Unless otherwise stated the resulting documentation found within the site is released under the same conditions of WZ itself (GPL?) of not then GPL.

If anyone has other suggestions to where i could upload to that's WZ-related, feel free to suggest something 'cause aubergine's wiki solution just wasn't for me :(

@Nameless - would it be ok if I copy some of the content to my wiki as well? (with links back to your site of course)

I don't see why not :) but a word of warning; not all of it may make sense and I was planning on doing so at the end of each month.

Well, on my wiki I was thinking of adapting it anyway - so while you're guide will be aimed more at players, I might try creating a parallel version that is more aimed at AI developers, for example linking to relevant API features or providing code samples, etc. What do you think?
