jets ? ( not vtols)

vtols are basicaly hellos, choppers, and dont require a runway.

heres the idea,

there is an airport

its has 3 termanls ( 1 in the beggining and can researche to upgrade more terminals, like factories)

each one holds, 1 bomber OR 3 fighters,

these travel 2X the speed of vtols

they are usefull for airstrikes and destroying ground units

here is my ideas about fighter and bomber jets.

- VTOL are already jets with the ability to take of without runway. so why make other jets?

- VTOL are already good at bombarding land unit and structure while remaining balanced with the rest of the units.


However, the idea of jet planes is not bad, but i think it can be usefull only on campaign like parachuting cyborg in a non-lz area.
It's quite the same as the Cyborg transport except it's flying higher and dont need to land.
As it is used only for away mission, the taking off and landing problem is avoided.


for example, on a map where you know that the ennemi has lots of AA, you have to parachute 10 cyborg in a remote area and the first order is to capture and secure an ennemi LZ to allow the transport of much heavier material on the battle field with the VTOL transport.

As simpler, earlier available technology. ;-)
But such additions would make sense only for long games, like for two hours or so, and default balance is more suited for fast ones, mainly due to relatively small maps.

As for campaign, such as ideas are good for sequels, I would like to see in future 10 campaigns in total (realistic are at least 5), Scavengers based prequel and two trilogies (connected themselves like current ones, each separated by one generation, like ~ 20 / 25 years of history).

Also Jorzi said that there are unused textures for hang gliders for Scavengers. :-)

thanks for your reply guys,

as you can see, the jets idea is basicaly to allow flying before researching the vtol tech.

so early game SPY PLANES can be usefull :)

sort of, but i was thinking more of a metal jet, not a blimp (blimps fall with one shot in the balloon :P )

or spy planes that cant be detected UNLESS you have a special detector that detects them :)

Well, those could be part of one technology tree, simpler ones (like from that thread) first, without VTOL factory (which would need to be renamed...), then light planes with runaway requirement, maybe helicopters too (done as a mod) and then most powerful, current VTOLs (maybe with possibility for further upgrades).

If we progress in weaponry, the marauding scavenger too.
So, since we have the VTOL air force now, can't they have at least some air force, like propeller planes or early jets planes like the Messerschmitt Me_262.

i was thinking about scavenger's "canadair" bombing our troops with water. water can seem harmless in a bottle but a great volume falling from the sky could make some damage on the hull and i don't count the damage on the electronic.

As I've said above there were apparently plans to give them hang gliders, also someone created (Black Project, AFAIR) a mod giving them helicopters. :-D

Also Scavengers in MP don't have to evolve usually...
But in case of new campaigns I would like to see them returning, in more advanced form which could include simple air units (I'm not sure if they should be capable of building fighter jets...).

Scavs should certainly have helicopters, and strangely I'd love to see them with a little runway and bi-planes!

These techs could then become available early in games to use as scouts...

aubergine, or hang gliders + use of cliffs (since they show up only in Arizona anyway). ;-)

small bi-planes, a sensor can be attached to it = a speedy spy plane

and i love the idea of the runsways with terminals :D

On small maps it would be hard to build nice looking (and fully flat) ones...
Maybe with bigger maps (or at least those adjusted to them).

There are already models for air traffic control towers. Just need a stretch of road and you have yourself a runway :)

Ah, right, roads could be a way to go, but only relatively flat ones, I think...
