Usually in all the games you end up with a flying type of device like an airplane or a blimp or something. As i recall in final fantasy 8 i think you got a space ship; but it didn't actually go into space... just flew around all over the world.
that reminds me of some anime i saw once a long time ago now, a humongous battleship - i believe it was the Japanese heavy battleship - Yamamoto (sp?). it wasn't on water, it floated above a desert landscape... my memory is failing. :stressed:

Nintendo:
Nobunaga's Ambition
Ghengis Khan
Romance of the Three Kingdoms

These three games are what really set me off on strategy and wargames. I was hooked for hours playing these. Graphics were not great, but the gameplay was very good, very detailed, and held a lot of depth.

PS1: Final Fantasy 7

Never got to play it for very long (never owned a PS1 or FF7) but it was one of my first true glimpses into a solid rated RPG. The few I had tried for the NES were not that great.

PC:
Multiplayer Battletech - The FIRST 3d MMO Just think a striped down Mechwarrior 2. This was when dial-up BBS systems were still around and you had various door games (LORD, Trade Wars 2002, Barren Realms Elite), the days of the wildcat bbs, renegade etc. And to think.. I paid for this HOURLY I feel old now... *sniff*

Dune2 - First RTS game I played and probably one of if not the first RTS game.
Overlord - If its the right game i'm thinking of... first 4X game I played
Privateer - First space flight sim, trading sim on the pc. Now helping to develop Vega Strike
X-Wing - 2nd space flight sim I played (went on to buy tie fighter and then x-wing vs tie)
Warzone2100/Total Annihilation - Best 2 RTS games I have ever played... tied for 1st as to which I think is better (shame on me)
Neverwinter Nights - To me this is the best RPG around, especially for modding and creating mini mmorpgs. This is what sucked up my time from 2002 on.

Other noteworthy mentions:
SimCity 4, Civilization 1-5, Roller Coaster Tycoon 1-3, Vega Strike, Shogun Total War, Rome Total War, Empire Total War (since these 3 remind me so much of the above NES games)

I'm probably missing a few that I have installed that are over 10 years old.. Specificly the old D&D games produces by SSI for DOS that I can never remember the names of.. except for Pools of radiance. Oh which reminds me.. Baldurs Gate 1&2. In all honesty though I guess I should just say anything developed by Bioware is usually unforgettable.

Anyway, time to submit before I ramble on and on all night.

Lord Apocalypse thank you for sharing your titles :) I see you are a veteran player.

Wll I think you are too from the times when the graphic was rather a background, although anything new at that times was indeed amazing.

I do not know the three games you have mentioned at the very beginning.. I will look at tham with time, now I am trying to limit my movement on the web as I have 4GB sattelite limit connection.. per month..

I started my RPG journey with Chrono Cros and.. Daredevil ?? am I right, the game in which you were able to chose which part of enemy attack ? I just loved the two games at that time :)

I also recall Fear Effect which I didnt manage to finish, one riddle was not possible for me to settle.. and a very controversial Fear Effect 2, I was surprised bu all the environment and the ide at that times :) Anyone know what I am talking about ?? :)

I have never played MMO, I had no money or no good connection always.. if I could in the future I would chose Lineage 2 I like its look, any suggestions of MMO game ?? dont be shy all is good, dont have to be the best creations of eneormous companies and a stunning graphics.

By the way, is there a sort of player encyclopedia where I could veryfy my knowledge at abbreviations like hash and slush, fps, mmo and so on ??

I played Dune on PSX One :) just after Red Alert series :)

I played Overlord 2 and I would finish it probably but I had to made system then.. the game was so cool :) the minions so funny :) and all the funny movies in the game :)

I will start playing Supreme Commander today, It was given with Rainbow Six and Still LIfe to a best Polish games magazine :) called CD - Action :)

Again thanx for sharing, I recalled thanx to you some titles :) If you happen to recall anything type if you want :)

The links I posted for those NES games are for gameplay. Best way to describe them is a text based Shogun Total War, only with more depth of micro management (I think) while still being very fun to play.

For an MMO... there is the Vega Strike mmo (shameless plug) but its really an Alpha/Beta stage of development. The single play aspect is much more stable, if you like space flight/trading sims like Elite and Privateer.

Ryzom is a commercial opensource MMO. Not sure if its free or not but you can download the client for free I think.

There are also the World of Warcraft server clones. I know here in the states you can get the client and first two expansion packs for under $50.00.

Can't remember about the others such as Guild Wars, Warhammer online, etc.. I know a few changed pricing models. Something like a free client but you have to pay a monthly fee. I think some other did the opposite, buy the client and get free online play. You will have to look each on up to find out.

What kind of games do you mostly like to play and I can probably start a list and send it in a PM as not to hijack this thread (unless others want to know as well).

On a side note. The 3 nintendo games I listed are from 1988/89, a little over 20 years old.

End ramblings.

Lord Apocalypse thank you very much for the names :)

And I think you may feel free to say all titles here, it is obvious that those are according to you, we are not advancing a universal best game ever, or universal platform, all games, all genres, all platforms are best here, but if you do not feel well with announcing you may send a PM of course.

The purpose of this thread is to talk, get opinions, points of view, and recall some titles even to reflect about that times, or maybe iven nowadays times :) or games that are going to happen :)

I remember Super Mario Bros 3 on nintendo, the one from 1990, it was called simply nintendo and was grey :) I cannot upload any pictures temporarily.. I played the game many times, there was a small new TV bought to make it possible to play in colours.

I just got minecraft about 3 weeks ago and it's used up more of my time so far than oblivion did in the first ~6 weeks I had it
(TES 4: Oblivion being my favorite game of all time)
In general, if you see glowing, pulsating things in the game, you should click on them.

Thanx for spotting and moving this thread as for a long time I thought no one plays anything any more ;)

I started to play Oblivion about two months ago but paused.. because of the sales of epic games for me on Steam during the Christmas :) It seems to be great game and many prize her a lot. I don't say and I do not dare as I played too little.

I was plaing all this weekend Dragon Age 2 after a long brake and I recalled I like it very much. Even the sounds of menu and options of the game sound cool to me :) I know it is strange but still ;) I like Verrick character with his crossbow called Bianca :) his talks ate hilarious :)

For the record I want to say that I am not the one who loves newest things and shiny only what is visible at the very beginning of this thread and for sure I am missing many titles there..

Bastion - Simply great game, I have just started playing it but it is awesome.. Look for trailers, dont get scared off by its candy like graphics, the music, word and its constant creating, the narrator make the game just great :)

Parasite Eve 2 :) on PS One

The main haracter girl was so hot! the ideas in the game were innovative, and the last boss was surprising, you fought with enermous mutant for a long time, and at a time when you thought you have killed it watching cutscene, it changed into some sort of flying angel, even more deadly that its previous form.. I remember my hands were shaking when I finally got to the angel, being killed few times :3

Then you will be more scared when you play Resident Evil 4.(And maybe 5)
But how can a flying angel scare somebody? O_o
