Re: Goodbye WRP forum peeps.
Well the reception to my FMV thread wasn't too well received. I think you guys would do well to "hire" some PR people to manage relations with the communities at large because I myself have perceived strained relations between them.
This is nothing new, and has existed since the source was first released. At the time, it drove many linux people and Warzone veterans alike away from the game, and that's something a nearly 10 year old community can't endure again.
Anyway, Grim, wherever you head, good luck, and I hope we can see more of your work

Go back and read your invective again. Here, I will provide a link: index.php?topic=828.0Chojun wrote: Well the reception to my FMV thread wasn't too well received.
Seriously, when you post like that, what did you expect?
Really. When you posted your FMV questions, would you like to have been answered by a PR person telling you how we value your participation, insights and contributions, and blah blah blah, or did you actually want the technical reasons for the decisions we made from the people who made them? You got the latter. If you wanted the former, I guess you are in the wrong place.Chojun wrote: I think you guys would do well to "hire" some PR people to manage relations with the communities at large because I myself have perceived strained relations between them.

I am not really sure what this is about, but I would just like to say thank you for your contributions so far, and that you are welcome back any time.GrimMoroe wrote: Seems I have upset some people with my post on another forum.
So I don't cause anymore troubles I will not be posting my progress on my gfx stuff or anything for that matter on these forums any longer. Anyone needs me, just send me an email.

Which forum exactly? - i know you posted a topic on the strategyplanet forums to show the progress of your gfx but i dont recall you posting anything offensive.GrimMoroe wrote:Seems I have upset some people with my post on another forum.
Ultimately though i hope you continue your work on your gfx stuff as it's mighty impressive.

* Yep.... that was the forum & post.Deathguise wrote: Which forum exactly - i know you posted a topic on the strategyplanet forums to show the progress of your gfx but i dont recall you posting anything offensive.
......
* Much ado.... tempest in a teapot, ultimately.
* If I may humbly interject - I put my PoV in another medium on the topic:
* Let me add-
* I do believe it is important to be clear, to dispell confusion & emphasize there is no adversarial relationship in play or any intent to simply promote a competition but rather just a difference of visions and that WZ the game & it's fan base (present & future) is big enough to handle it.
* It is also very important to remember that the final arbitor in the diverging paths will be those who actually play the game.
* They will decide in the open free market (or Darwinian engagement) what will survive & propagate.... not the visionaries - the visionaries have no control over the greater gaming community only the realization of the vision presented.
* Live and let live.... let the chips fall where they will.
* As time passes it will become clear what is prefered and what is more robust, more viable, more generative, unfolding into the future.
* In a nutshell - WRP guys, do what you need to do and we respect your skills & the benefits you've confered on the Linux & Mac gaming community by porting WZ.
* But that's just the begining, not the end of the journey and ours is simply a journey & vision that differs - that's it.
* ONE - though the "visions" are not compatible at this juncture, thus the necessity for a fork, that could change down the road and enough common ground come to the fore to constitue the basis for a strategic alliance. Time will tell.
* TWO - there is absolutely no personal animosity or vendetta involved in the forking. Just a practical necessity in order to realize a vision that differs from the WRP. Nothing more or less than that.

Re: Goodbye WRP forum peeps.
I apologize, that was just me feeling bad for myself. If you'd like to reopen the topic for debate, then I'll happily revisit my feelings on the issue. No, I have NOT visited an anger management coach.Per wrote:[...]blah blah blah, [...]
It seems that none of you have even dared (or attempted) to explain why for so long it was said that FMV playback was impossible. The FAQ entry on your wiki is just plain deceptive and I offered a replacement entry for it but that was summarily rejected.
Let me offer an even shorter revision for the FAQ entry:
Q: I have the retail CD. Can I view the FMVs?
A: No. FMV Support existed in the original source but we removed it because only the Windows crowd can view them. So we decided it'd be better to just not have them at all.
Anyway this thread isn't about me so if you think your philosophies can stand up to debate then open up the FMV thread and we'll give it another go.

Hellohoo!!
Are there people inside or just some burned circuits calling for war?
I am really not feeling like that...
And if you feel pissed by us and are reluctant to solve this in a way that deserves the adjective human, then please seat yourself somewhere else...

ok... time out... everyone go and have a good bowel evacuation and a long walk in the cool of the day... or smokem if you got em...
this is not the place to have wars.... thats what the hot countries are for... if your having problems understanding each others points of view... take a few minutes and put yourself in the shoes of he you are having problems with.
i would have to hate to use the moderators big stick... ;D

"to prepare for disaster is to invite it, to not prepare for disaster is a fools choice" -me (kim-lav_coyote25-metcalfe) - it used to be attributed to unknown - but adding the last bit , it now makes sense.

* I totally dislike discussions that go the way of a crapper so I would never promote such.
* Whenever I get in a "warlike" mood I go in-game and blow chit up.

* If I want to do it thoughtfully I'll play an RTS and if it's more a wanton blood-lust i'll play an FPS.
* Rather than spar or cross swords with words in bb postings I'd sooner challenge peeps to a game of WZ & kick some butt that way. Much more satisfying.
* It's always a good idea to keep your buds close & non-buds closer (a variant of a great warriors motto).
* As is putting your self in the shoes of those whose position differs from yours & do it with all sincerity.
* I sum it up like so: The rule of rules - always question your fondest assumptions & knee-jerk inclinations. Not to the point of "paralysis by analysis" but there is plenty of room prior to reaching that counter productive threshold. The point being not to let your positions become a medieval suit of armor but rather an ongoing development like Jeet-Kun-Do.
* We're way too civil here for that to be necessary.
i would have to hate to use the moderators big stick... ;D
* One last comment....
* Focusing to the point of exclusivity on FMV support would be missleading as it is really just one item in a long laundry list of fundamental differences.
Cheers, RV

I think I did make a rather large effort to try to explain this to you and others.Chojun wrote: It seems that none of you have even dared (or attempted) to explain why for so long it was said that FMV playback was impossible.
So the abbreviated version:
Technically FMV playback is currently (i.e. with the current codebase) not possible.
This has two reasons:
- there is no code to perform the decoding (in the current codebase)
- there is no code to actually render/display a video stream to/on the screen (also in the current codebase)
The second reason why FMV playback currently is impossible, i.e. having no render code, would only require people's time and effort to address. Still, a renderer would be useless without a decoder.

* There is a fundamental technical correction I need to make to that statement.Rman Virgil wrote:

- RV![]()
* The word Fork is WRONG.
* This is NO fork of the WRP.
* It is entirely built from scratch off v.1.10 retail release & will thus more accurately be a true v.1.11 (unlike Lord Apoc's inaccurately dubbed v.1.11 which was really a comprehensive MOD as he had absolutely no access to the source base.)
* While there will be over-lap (afterall it is the same game) it takes NOTHING from the WRP code base and thus, again, is not a "Fork".
* Hope that furthur clarifies the situation and sorry for any confusion my incorrect use of terminology may have caused.
