Apology to the community

Post by vexed »

Folks, really sorry those of you that saw the inappropriate action of one of our moderators.
It was uncalled for, and itself, broke all the rules that we strive to uphold to make all aspects of Warzone a better place for all.

Please do not quote vile language nor try to start more flame wars.
It will not be tolerated at all.

Saddest this is, this could have all been avoided, if a little patience and common sense was used.
Warzone is NOT turning into starcraft nor C&C. Some things got into the game that were a mistake or a bug, and it was as simple as that.
/facepalm ...Grinch stole Warzone🙈🙉🙊 contra principia negantem non est disputandum
Super busy, don't expect a timely reply back.

A brief skim-read of the blog that said ex-moderator linked to made it very obvious who was in the wrong here. (Hint: Not the guy posting incoherent, profane rants in written English that a 7th grader should be embarrassed by.) Don't blame yourselves.

But if any of you are still in contact with the individual concerned outside this venue, and believe he's willing to listen to you, I advise you to tactfully encourage him to seek some medical advice. Drastic behaviour and personality changes can be a sign of several things, none of them good.

:hmm: That could be. The outrage & aggression was hugely disproportionate to what was going on - & so off track and unreasonable. Unfortunately, those several things that could be amiss also make one unlikely to listen to such advice for counsel from anyone (even close family), no matter how tactfully suggested. Still, one should make the effort, if there's even but the slimmest possibility of making a positive difference. Obviously, this is way beyond anything to do with the game.

It's been pointed out to me that my previous post has been used as "flamewar bait". The following message is aimed at the people using it as such and those individuals alone:

Way to completely miss my point, you bunch of vindictive tossers. For the benefit of everyone who needs this spelled out, I was aluding to the very real possibility that the guy you're all bitching out has a bunch of other stuff going on in his life -maybe a bereavement, maybe illness or injury, maybe just plain old-fashioned stress- that made him flip out over something minor like changes to this game, and that we might therefore want to cut him a little slack. I can't stop you kicking him when he's down, but you can stop doing it in my name right the hell now.

That's good to hear.
Just for the record, what things were they, and when will they be fixed? I ask because apparently in the latest master or git or whatever, the problems were still there. :)

I think that that is the most likely, if not the only explanation. The guy has been a been a member of the community for over 10 years, and a respected one at that, and for a considerable amount of time (I don't know how long), he was a moderator as well. This, err, incident? only started a month ago, and it's a totally different matter to someone who comes on and expects everyone to accede to his demands, and then flames and leaves, generally with ridiculous threats.
That is just not the story here. Whether it is a personal loss, or just RL being RL in general, it is no reason to flame him. :lecture:

I am very, very sad hearing about this. Very sad. lav_coyote25 was one of the few who were nice to me when I came clean myself.
I could cry tonight. I'm praying for him.

It probably means he's not letting himself visit this forum during exam season for fear he'll end up spending hours on here whemn he ought to be studying.

That could be right but lav cayote is over 50 years old so I doubt that he has to study anymore. Also he mentioned this in his blog so I doubt this is a short-term thing done on purpose.

Also it appears that this is not real ban but only changed rank message so nobody interrupts him. ;-)

Sad sad sad. lav was the first WZ enthusiast I encountered on line, way back, when I went to scour his website for maps, mods, utils and most of all his invaluable manual for the 16 bit Editor.

I has a number of scrapes with him as Moderator and could see that his responses were become increasingly more strident. To be frank, lav was most of all an enthusiastic and committed WZoner - he did not have the dispassion that Moderatorship needs.

I am truly sorry if I had even a small part in this tragedy. I can only sincerely wish him well and hope to see him back on the Forum soon.
