Radar Detectors
How exactly do these actually work? Do they detect when a unit or building within their range is being targeted, does the sensor itself have to be within their range?

Re: Radar Detectors
I've no idea, never use them. I would have expected them to detect enemy radars far outside the range of my normal radars, but they don't seem to do that. So I just use normal radars starting with the basic sensor, then the hardened sensor, then the wide spectrum sensor.
I know there is some dabbling taking place with a Radar Jammer tower - I imagine if that makes it in to the game then radar sensors will become far more useful due to your own sensors being muted by the jammer tower. Thus you'd have to have something designed to detect enemy radars to get an idea of where the enemy is.

Re: Radar Detectors
Radar sensors are suppose to target any enemy sensor.
This is why some features aren't implemented: http://forums.wz2100.net/viewtopic.php?f=30&t=7490&view=unread#p87241

Re: Radar Detectors
But normal sensors do that anyway - if something's on radar and my artillery is in range, my artillery will shoot at it. So why bother with radar detectors?

In master, radar detectors will show you enemy radars in a very long range as radar blips. They are no longer capable of targeting.

Re: Radar Detectors
Ah, that's cool - so player could decide to go for passive jammer+detector+droids route or active radar+artillery route?

Re: Radar Detectors
now that is something i would get excited about. thing is , we have no units that will (vtol) hover in place.... i have seen from time to time the AI hover their vtols in place, waiting for some reason to attack, then attack. but no human player can do that. is it possible to do this code wise....stiv wrote:Perhaps this is a subconscious plea for reconnaissance zeppelins as a new unit type.blimps??? you mean blips right??
and thanks noq for the inspiration.

Re: Radar Detectors
You can hover VTOLs: Set attack to "hold fire" (they won't attack anything) and then set them to circle or do a very short patrol = same effect as them hovering in place.
I never quite understood why player controlled VTOLs land when you click them to go somewhere. IMHO the only time they land is when they are over a rearming pad.

i guess you haven't seen the behavior i have described. it isnt any sort of patrol. which by the way is broken... at least in the last few games i have played. put the vtols to patrol a certain area and they go all over the map. why?
anyways. getting back to what i said. there should be a hover function for vtols. the AI does it. why not human players.??

They were so much usefull as a counter-counter-battery. Why did you changed that ?

Because I had the impression nobody were using them, and because they made ECM jammers useless against artillery.

Re: Radar Detectors
well, as I said, when 2 players a competing with arty and they are at the same tech level. The first to get a functionnal radar detector destroy the CB of the opponent. I was using it for sure...
