Music volume ?
Hi, I'm new here and have a question. I have the original game, got it the day it came out, and ripped the music of the cds. The music plays fine excepted the volume is really low. So my question, is there a way to make the volume for the music (ogg or mp3) to be louder in the game. I have tried turning down all the other sounds, but the menu screen (esc key during game play) is still too loud. Is there a config file or a command to boost the ogg or mp3 play back? Any help would be nice.

* Just an innocent oversight, no doubt.

The only thing that's available is the option in the ingame "escape"->options menu (these settings also appear in the config file but are exactly the same).Psyfer9983 wrote: So my question, is there a way to make the volume for the music (ogg or mp3) to be louder in the game.
No there isn't, all we do is decrease the volume of the original audio track if the respective volume setting isn't set at maximum. "Boosting" would require resampling of the audio if the sound card doesn't support boosted audio (most sound devices would consider the sound to be out-of-range, which would result in loud noise). And audio resampling is quite difficult to do (it's a long time since I attempted to do anything with that), plus I think it shouldn't be our job to resample your music so that it sounds harder, instead this is better left to those who deliver the sound (in this case you).Psyfer9983 wrote: ... So just make sure that your music files use the full range of "-1.0 to 1.0" as amplitude.
You can do this using for example Audacity. In Audacity simply open your audio file, choose "effect"->"amplify" and select the largest amplification where the "OK" button is still available. Don't select "Allow clipping" though!! You will not loose any sound quality as long as you keep "allow clipping" de-selected.
PS MP3 will no longer be supported in 2.1. This for two main reasons, A) MP3's quality is rather poor compared to Vorbis (usually found in "ogg" files) B) MP3 is patented and as such is a non-free format.
Sure, though not through personal messages/e-mails please (at least not to me). I personally don't like being bothered personally/privately about non-personal/non-private issues. * Bear with me for a sec.
* WRP is FOSS - ya work for no pay but for purely personal satisfaction - am I wrong ?
* I mean if you're a mercenary selling your services to the highest bidder & it don't matter who you blow to smithereens - now that's impersonal, totally.. don't ya think ?
* But maybe it's something else wherein it is more appropriate to say -
* Pardon moi for my faux pas.
* And yet, I'd think that any info you make available or not thru this bb would speak for itself - that is if you want no communication on WZR thru this bb's alternate venues (PM or EM) then you wouldn't make said info available to strangers here as you might at an internet dating service for the socially challenged (Or how 'bout a free EM acct just for WRP that you can look at or not)
* Then again that logic could be as irrelevant as my sense of civility obviously differs from yours. Could be it's one of those cultural / lang things were one peeps boorish is another peeps charm or one man's crap is an others buried treasure or one fay fellas fond Bambi boots is another fellas occassion for a chuckle fest - in any case I'll not err again now that I know were your coming from in no uncertain terms, which actually doesn't supprise me, come to think of it.
* As far as IRC - it's so hit or miss you have to practically assume the demeanor of a rock groupie hag & hang-out ad nauseum if your looking for an answer to a straight foward question which is something I absolutely can't be bothered with so in that sense I can relate - but take that as a gleeful insouciance rather than a cold-blooded & wicked barb.
* Peace-out dude.

Ok. Well it was worth the try. It would be a nice update to the game to have a music boost. I have tried boosting the audio when encoding the mp3s but doesn't sound good.
O well, thanks anyway.

Within the above context you can call me a hacker.http://www.catb.org/~esr/faqs/smart-questions.html#noprivate wrote: Don't ask people to reply by private e-mail
Hackers believe solving problems should be a public, transparent process during which a first try at an answer can and should be corrected if someone more knowledgeable notices that it is incomplete or incorrect. Also, helpers get some of their reward for being respondents from being seen to be competent and knowledgeable by their peers.
When you ask for a private reply, you are disrupting both the process and the reward. Don't do this. It's the respondent's choice whether to reply privately — and if he does, it's usually because he thinks the question is too ill-formed or obvious to be interesting to others.
There is one limited exception to this rule. If you think the question is such that you are likely to get many answers that are all closely similar, then the magic words are “e-mail me and I'll summarize the answers for the groupâ€. It is courteous to try and save the mailing list or newsgroup a flood of substantially identical postings — but you have to keep the promise to summarize.

* The email suggestion came after several days of a very public statement that went unanswered.
* It was suggested merely to draw attention to the already public statement werein the email respondee having their attention drawn to the bb statement could proceed to post a public response.
* That's it, plain & simple.
* Sorry that molehile took on an Olympian scale...
* Again, probably just a cultural assumption lost in translation which is always a danger with nuances.
* Where on the same page actually.

I look at the bug tracker and this board when I know I have the time to reply, which is why I prefer to get questions here. That way messages do not get lost in the flood of email.
