Strategy
From beginner to Hero in 2 hours...(as used on alpha1, to be carried through the game)
***Recycling Strategy...
'Needed information'
*[F1]key factories menu
*Pause production(right click the tank icon)
*Resume production (left click the tank icon)
*['ctrl'+'r']keys = recycle selected unit(s)
*right click the factory to change the default settings your tanks come out with,(saves time later)
(I use long range, retreat heavy damage, fire at will)
*start building mg tanks, when the progress bar reaches 99% pause it. the icon will flash.
(there is a lag @ 100% if you pay attention)
*go kill some scavengers
*recycle tank (for experience).BE POSITIVE HE IS RECYCLED(there should be a glittery sprite and he vanishes).
*resume production, out pops a fresh tank, almost instantly,
*head back to battle. rinse, repeat.
***The Serpentine Strategy...
'needed information'
*[shift] or [ctrl] key = waypoints
*send your unit(s) into the battle zone
hold the [shift] or [ctrl] key and click one side of the battle zone (a green arrow points to the spot)
(still holding [shift] or [ctrl]) click to the opposite side
*do this as much as you like (I do 6-7, but he retreats(for recycling) before hitting them all)
I like to start just close enough to pull some guys out of hiding and work my way back
side to side (oh yeah he pauses for a second at each waypoint)
dont make this pattern too complex until you get the hang of it.
*basically this moving target fights the battle all by himself, you can do other things(like recycling)
done properly...there can be reinforcing waves of badasses, constantly laying down fire on the enemy.
i just started trying these this morning, i havent found any weaknesses yet, but we'll see.
im sure with a large group getting in the way of eachother this can go wrong, fast.
I think the idea is to use a few squads, with a few guys each.
im gonna call it the Black Ops Strategy. or Why Repair Tanks Rock Strategy.
*im up to 11 guys in a group(no commander yet(im on alhpa6) i have not lost a single guy.
please update the post with your ideas/comments/critiques, thanks.

Re: Strategy
so I've been working on the serpentine strategy, im upto alpha6 with 11 guys, (one badass[gonna be a commander] and ten units, all majors) its awesome the way they seem to single file..... and the badguys cant handle it.... omg
I leave 3 repair units in the background
i serpentine upto, through the battle zone and back to the repair guys, i take out most of the base defenses and get repaired and back to the fight ina few seconds, its awesome, working much better than i thought, there is some bunching sometimes...probably my fault with the layering, (to be refined)
*UPDATE*
went through alpha6
(unit1)10-HMG-viper-halftracks
(unit2)5-wheeled viper repair trucks
I absolutely owned
using the serpentine idea, has been modified to triangles(3points) and squares(4points)
(gonna try some double unit assaults)
it'll look like this...
(unit1)10-HMG-viper-halftracks
(unit2)10-HMG-viper-halftracks
(unit3)5[maybe upto 10]-wheeled viper repair trucks...idk
I started using a commander at alpha7-alpha10, (some other adjustments too, 3lancers and 3rockets, 3HMG all cobra halftrack)
he is worthless(thats a seperate subject though, to be addressed individually)
so i am attaching a screenshot, hope itworks and is useful. you can add more waypoints(these get stacked) stack1 finishes they start on stack2, etc...
im sure you see where this is going... make 3or4 waypoints, do some stuff, go make some more waypoints...easy...
o yeah... not a single lost unit upto alpha10 [1 hero(commander*spit*) 9 elite misc..]
fyi- this game is all about the experience...see the recycling strategy.
please update the post with your ideas/comments/critiques, thanks.

Re: Strategy
THE COMMANDER (worthless POS?)
[a work in progress by cj11701]<- an apology for sharing thoughts, before its perfected or finished....
[if the research(tech)tree has taught me anything, its that all things become obsolete in the next level or two, by
this rationale, "the commander" is also obsolete by alpha7, or 8 at the latest.] zero value in multi(btw)
first of all...
add fire support?...
is this only effective with defense structures?
i had a few mortar tanks on the battlefield, chained to a commander, on a support option, and they just sat there when i got attacked.(dont get me wrong, they were great cannon fodder)i may have done this wrong...idk
*does the AI set a value to tanks? does a higher production cost = a higher threat = first target in a battle?*
second...
Im working on this black ops idea(its the serpentine strategy[sorry its so long and annoying]...modified to perfection) and this stupid freaking commander is ruining it.
the idea is mobility...
when units are assigned to a commander, they act retarded... they spend a signifigant amount of time just sitting at the waypoints, unlike a group without a commander.
(i actually re-recycled a commander for a cobra-halftrack-HMG and was kicking the stuffing out of a turkey)I also found myself managing the group more than usual, and even though the commander applies a bonus modifier, i think this becomes a wash.
[if the research(tech)tree has taught me anything, its that all things become obsolete in the next level or two, by
this rationale, "the commander" is also obsolete by alpha7, or 8 at the latest.]<-repeated for a reason...
this makes me think the commander is just a sensor tank, maybe with some potential later in the game...
I first played this game a million years ago, when it first came out and just started playing again the otherday, so I
havent given up hope on the commander yet. but we'll see, the advanced artillary is awesome in this game, and i think
the commander may have something to do with it...much...later in the game.
to be continued...unfortunately for you...lol

Re: Strategy
Construction Stacking
***Needed Info
[shift] or [ctrl] key = create waypoint(s)
[ctrl & 1-9] = create group(s)
[F3]key = open construction menu
build yourself a few construction trucks (i think 3 to a group is a good qty.)
create a group out of them
(i use zero{backfield} & nine{foreward})(later in the game you may need more groups)
select your construction group
open the construction menu
hold the [shift] or [ctrl] key and tell them to build something, and then something else
repeat...(there is a limit of 6or7 at a time)
as with the serpentine strategy orders may be stacked...
meaning you dont have to do them all at once...
when a couple of orders are completed(say1,2,3), you can add a couple more. they will finish 4,5,6 and start on your new orders... they will build one after the other in the order you told them to (feel free to mix it up too) benefit = minimal micromanagement

Stacking Orders
***needed info...
[Shift] or [ctrl] key = waypoints (thank you boris)
[alt]key = force fire
so in this running theme... you can stack multiple orders from different buttons
for example...
you can create way points, add force fire orders, etc. etc.
if you hold [alt] you can tell your group to force fire on an item, then the next, then the next, etc.
remember... all orders are carried out in order... and your group will ignore badguys if given forcefire orders...

Alt+click on ground will place your units in "scouting" mode where it will stop and kill it's enemy prior to move forward.cj11701 wrote: remember... all orders are carried out in order... and your group will ignore badguys if given forcefire orders...

Re: Strategy
Thank you, Iluvalar
i have something new to try out.
regarding the manual...
the wz team has done a fantastic job of providing the community with an awesome manual. however, it is not a nice and neat pdf, it is also not in a classic game format.
regarding the forum...
again, kudos to the team. however, this is the only game forum (Ive been to) without a specific strategy section.
I do appologize to the elite group of wz players and the wz team(probably the same people) for my boring posts about strategy. I have had difficulty trying to figure these things out using the web-based manual, because IF the information is in there its all over the place. and it doesnt tell me how/why it is valuable/necessary.
I know some of the things I have posted are redundant, but for the newcomer to go to one place and learn some things that will make the game more fun, i think its worth it. please consider, the information you take for granted, is what us scrubs want to know.
its fun for my ego to think im doing something that helps and you've given me an outlet...
Thank you again Iluvalar.

http://developer.wz2100.net/browser/doc ... e.asciidoc is included in both pdf and html format. Improvements welcome (the website code for the guide is at https://github.com/Warzone2100/wz2100.n ... wz2100.net).cj11701 wrote:regarding the manual...
