i've noticed that many players resolve to the tactic of preventing their opponents from acquiring power resources by initiating their own oil derricks on them first, yet without finishing their building; thus allowing the same truck/engineer to acquire more power resources in a similar fashion, and finish building them later. Which is a fine tactic. Only that i noticed that, destroying a semi-built oil derrick takes almost as long as destroying a finished one.
I think that destroying a semi-built oil derrick should require less effort/time, and also, should not result in the power resource being set "on fire" afterwards, thus minimizing the amount of "time" required to capture the power resource from opponents. It's a weak tactic that requires nothing more than a simple click over the power resource to achieve, and therefore should be made to be easier to counter. Myself i am often too aloof to resolve to that tactic, although i do sometimes to stand up against a mighty opponent!! LOL

I agree with you. It's like that in master. And it's like that in my experimental build. It's easy to implement so I second you. not only for oil derrick, but for any half-built.

A patch is already done for this, but we still need to decide how to handle this.

I know RTS-Games where an unfinished building disappears if no unit works on it / finishes it for X seconds (mostly 45 to 60 seconds).
Maybe this may be an option to think about as well?
Benefit of this method is the prevention of such tricks as described by meeso since every player knows buildings will disappear and can´t be used as cheap shields/blockades

I've known of rts games (like Starcraft 2) where the building getting built gradually increased in HP until it was fully built. But yeah, I'm also in favor of implementing this to counter such cheap tactics. (That or simply reducing the amount of time it takes to build a derrick to being almost instantaneously.)
