anti-cheat code

Post by medusa »

why is there not a system like punkbuster for windows that can stop the online cheating?
the 2.3.8 version is still full of fracking cheaters! :x
nobody plays the master game when I tried it, does that still allow cheating like 2.3.8?

No, master doesn't allow that much cheating. In fact, it's much harder to cheat on master.

Cheating on 2.3.8 is very easy, and controlling it is close to impossible. In fact, there are too many things that aren't transmitted on network at all, so you can do anything you want with them.

On the other hand, i didn't see many cheaters on 2.3.8 even; it requires quite some knowledge to cheat anyway. Probably seen them just 3 or 4 times in my life. "Full of cheaters" is certainly not the case; i believe you're having a bit too much false positives.

what do you mean by that?
when they got tons of units in a short amount of time, that is cheating.
when my bases explode when nobody is around, that is cheating.

Needs more data. Such cheat is possible, but you might have just met a good player; that's why i play only on IRC - i'm just suffering from being called a cheater too often.

This is not cheating, this is ugly desync (your base was actually destroyed by your enemy, but you know it only a minute later; v2.3 net engine is capable of this, yeah; don't play when pings are too high).

I've seen this in master, too, though it was expected as the "2+2=5" logo was present.

There is also speedhackers NoQ.

Medusa my suggestion to avoid cheat is to try to come on IRC. There is lot of good people there that try to avoid any kind of cheat. And cheaters try to avoid them as well because we are all a bunch of stool that warn the host as soon as we see something suspicious even in our own team.

That make cheaters forced to play like they were not cheating and that brake the purpose of doing so :) . You can also join my games where I took the bad habit to cheat myself and enter the debug menu just to see if someone is cheating around.
Heretic 2.3 improver and proud of it.

Really:

In our (tmp and I) version of the game there were no red units.

The "2+2=5" symbol means that the game is out of sync (that is why he said it was expected).

With 2.3 it is difficult to know whether someone is really a speed hacker or if the speed of their computer affected the calculations.
