BETA1 error

hi. 

I've painstakingly gone through the Alpha missions so everytime I select the transport loadout before Beta1 it tries to load the cutscene but it crashes to desktop.  Don't know why. 

I've tried using the --game CAM_2A for the desktop shortcut and this works but it of course doesn't have my custom units or any of their promoted status (of which I'm quite happy with)

I've seen the suggestions about loading the hotfix but I don't know how.

Please bear in mind I'm running Windows XP.

p.s. if you decomission the hardpoints and other assets in the Alpha stage do the funds carry over into the Beta stage? (of course assuming I can get past this problem)
