Re: Alpha11 Retreat
There is something seriously wrong with this mission.
I rush to intercept the artifact, and gain it. This doesn't end the mission, so I continue up towards the enemy base. On approaching the base, with at least one of my vehicles on their base, I can clearly see no enemy occupants (just a couple of towers to the West). Then I see an enemy transport land, pick up nothing, and take off- end of mission: failed.
In two previous games, I have managed to get through this level, but it always seems to be a chancy level.
The enemy transport appears to be triggered by my position on the map- fair enough, but why should the enemy win by evacuating no troops, and no artifact?

Re: Alpha11 Retreat
The objectives of this mission are seriously flawed, and need attention.
Rushing to intercept the artifact, and gaining it, doesn't end the mission. Continuing to the enemy base, it is possible to destroy the enemy defensive towers, place a unit on the base, see that there are no mobile enemy units present. Then, an enemy transport arrives, lands, picks up nothing, and departs. This ends the mission in failure.
This level needs attention, as indicated by the high number of posts- or have we all missed something?
BTW, I have previously completed this level on 'Normal' and 'Hard' difficulty settings, but each time I had the impression that my success was more by luck than skill...

Re: Alpha11 Retreat
Yeah, this should be stated more explicitly. The objective is to recover the artefact before it is transported away and then destroy all enemy tanks. Objectives of the two "defend the base" missions are also rather unclear.

Re: Alpha11 Retreat
It's not just that the objectives are unclear.
At the last stage of the game, it isn't possible to even look for enemy tanks or structures, because the enemy transport is triggered by my approach. I often play without sound, and so can easily miss the instruction "Return to LZ", and that appears to be the problem. However, in other levels, it is normal to be able to clear the board before returning to LZ.
Sorry about my dual post above: I can't see how I can delete one of them- perhaps a moderator could delete one.

This is very true, I'm currently playing through this level with these problems. I will make sure not to approach the base next timeegg wrote:The objectives of this mission are seriously flawed, and need attention.

Re: Alpha11 Retreat
You'd *have* to approach the base, because there are enemy units there. But you still should be fast enough to kill the unit that carries the artefact before *it* reaches the base, which obviously disables the transport trigger.I will make sure not to approach the base next time

Killing the unit that carries the artifact should disable the transport trigger, but it doesn't!

Other units may pick it up. Did you actually recover the artifact?egg wrote:Killing the unit that carries the artifact should disable the transport trigger, but it doesn't!

Yes, artifact recovered and researched. I'll see if I can find a savegame showing the problem.

Re: Alpha11 Retreat
Killed everything on the map, and picking up the artifact and starting researching it doesn't help. The transport lands in the middle of your tanks, you shoot the transport down to 1 HP, but the transport can't die, and the empty transport flies off and you mysteriously lose.NoQ wrote:Hmm, never seen anything like that. Only way to win is by using a "get off my land" cheat which kills the empty transport.

Re: Alpha11 Retreat
Just by pass the scavenger bases, taking the left had slope on to the road where the artifact is, know turn right and go up the very right hand path, take out the small skavenger base, top right, await the artifact force. Engage it here away from any Scavenger or Paradigm defences. Easy.

Re: Alpha11 Retreat
took me a few attempts to complete this mission, I had to block the path of the artifact carrier, as its quite a fast unit, but, once I got it, then the rest isn't that hard

Re: Alpha11 Retreat
hi guys i have to say been playing WZ2100 since PS1 on this level forget about the scavingers take your force striaght down to the lower valley in the middle intercept the np force destroy the artifact carrier most times it is a lancer on wheels Hench you should get down to the valley and block them ASAP on the start of this level.after collecting the artifact demolish the np base at top of the valley on the other side. Then polish off the scavingers working you way back to the LZ.I don't bother building anything on this level apart from a couple of repair bays.If after collecting and in the process of researching the artifact the enemy transport comes and departs theres something wrong in your game. PS this game is GOLD the Mother of all RTS. i constantly come back to it time & time again.
