Warzone 2100 on Ubuntu.

I'm trying to run Warzone 2100 on Ubuntu 10.10 and can't seem to get it started. The main menu comes up and appears to work but when I start a game a splash screen comes up and nothing happens. The sound is playing but nothing does anything. I can't even get out.

I used the Ubuntu software center to get the game.

I don't know linux so maybe someone else can help. Did you look at the compile guide? http://developer.wz2100.net/wiki/CompileGuideLinux
Also make sure you have the latest drivers for your video card. Take a look at this link to see if the problem is a driver.

Ok I tried Ubuntu. For me it did not automaticly install a video driver. Select hardware drivers and make sure one is actually active. Also the Ubuntu software center downloads ver 2.2.4 which is very outdated. Download ver 2.3.7 or the Master if you have good Video card. Follow the guide, you will need to type Sudo to have administrator rights. (sudo apt-get build-dep warzone2100)

I believe Ubuntu uses compiz (a compositing window manager) by default. Compositing window managers like compiz, kde4 desktop effects and Aero on Windows tend to have problems with OpenGL applications like WZ, especially with certain low-end video cards.

Turning off compiz is one thing to try. Using the manufacturer's driver for your video card is another.

Thats your problem, also probably drivers....

I got the same thing on vista after re-installing. I needed to update the ATI Graphics driver.

What is your video card?

Also I don't believe for a second that compiz is doing it. I can run wz, minecraft and have compiz on full with only lag on the games.

Since you took it from the Software Center its the old version 2.3.4 not 2.3.7 which is the latest... Upgrade the game just in case its a bug in the old version.

When I launch master in Ubuntu, I'm unable to play it in fullscreen, instead I get a windowed version even though it is mentioned as Fullscreen in game video options. Anyone got a clue as to how I can get Fullscreen? Really appreciate the help.

Hmm. No idea. For me, even Alt+Enter works; but not in the Qt version; and i don't remember wether fullscreen works in Qt version (and can't test right now).
Still, windowed isn't too bad once you learn about this "Alt+T" thing (which also fails to work in Qt version, lol)

I just finished installing the 2.3.7 on Ubuntu, and fullscreen worked right out of the box. Only the maser seems to be the problem.

Just curious, do you have KDE (kubuntu-desktop) installed? I plan on building Master tonight.
