connection failure

Post by GiGaBaNE »

unable to connect to lobby

OS: winxp32sp3
Router: tenda w548d
Firewall: Comodo Internet Security premium 5.3.181415.1237

Win firewall has exception added (even tho i disable by default, tried it as active and inactive)
Comodo has full access any mac to any mac

Router: opened ports, then created virt server. Both fail, however when i put my computer in the DMZ it allowes through.
No such problem with any other version of warzone other than the qt line.

Anybody have any thoughts?

im pretty sure im forwarding the ports right and i suspect its something to do with the release, but it would be really nice if i can get a workaround so i can lan play with my son without opening up my computer to the dmz =/

To play on LAN, you don't need to forward ports, just join the other computer's IP instead.

True but on the qt master i have a cmd screen running in the background saying failed to connect to lobby repeat adinfinitum and it slows the front end down to a crawl...unplayable if it cant connect to lobby =/

Edit: that is to say, one cant host a lan game without it trying to connect to the lobby to publish your game.

No-no-no, there is no need to cut off the lobby. You host the game as usual (probably with a password), and join by IP anyway.

lol im sure you know what you mean...im just not sure you know what I mean =p

whether your hosting for lan or for wan, the host machine still tries to connect to lobby and thats when it melts down, look.
flooded.JPG
while this is going on in the background the game is unplayable via LAN or WAN.

im certain it has something to do with the way the app talks to the router that has changed as i dont have this problem on any other version of warzone.

im sure it will be fixed in time, all im after is a way to play without putting the host into the DMZ.

You disabled exception or Win firewall? Since your using secondary firewall you should have Windows firewall disabled. If windows firewall is disabled it would not matter if exception is checked or not. If you want to use Windows firewall and have it on then the exception for Warzone should be checked as well as UPnP if you want the game to open the port for you.
GiGaBaNE wrote:Comodo has full access any mac to any mac
It should also say any port if you have it on nornal alert level (you may have to enter the rule so see this). If your security level is higher the rule should say port 2100. In Comodo you will have a rule for each instance of Warzone you installed, ensure your looking at the right one.
GiGaBaNE wrote:im pretty sure im forwarding the ports right and i suspect its something to do with the release
Which release? From your screen shots it looks like you compiled trunk. If so make sure it compiled correctly.

If you can host in DMZ then the problem is your router or your config file or an error if you compiled. From your screen shots your router appears to be confused with port forwarding and port Triggering of both ports.

You do not need port triggering, delete both those rules. You do not need to forward port 9990, delete that rule. The only rule you need is to forward port 2100 for TCP. (you forward TCP/UDP that is fine but you dont need the UDP)
GiGaBaNE wrote:im certain it has something to do with the way the app talks to the router that has changed as i dont have this problem on any other version of warzone.
The only thing the game does to the router is open port 2100 for you if the config file has UPnP=1. Sometimes MiniUPnP does not open the port fast enough, simply click back then click Host again and it will work because the port was opened the first time you clicked host. For the game to do this you must allow for UPnP service and SSDP discovery service and the ports they also use.

In your Warzone config file UPnP=0 means do not open port and UPnP=1 means open the port. You will have a different config file for each series of Warzone (2.2, 2.3, Master, Trunk etc) so make sure you change the right one.

The only other thing is if you choose to open the port manually, check and see that your internal address is still the same as the address forwarded in your router. If it changed you will not be able to host any version until it is corrected. (unless you use DMZ)

My normal setup is win firewall off. For the purpose of trying to get wz qt running i tried all permiatations of exception win firewall on/ off. UNPN is working fine and has an exception for when i test with win firewall on. no errors on my part there.

It does say any port and yes im looking at the right one...some credit please

Its 20110320 QT i did not compile i just use the installers and have no problems installing a normal installer.

I tried all combinations of virt servers, port triggering e.t.c starting with the same rules i have used for every other version of warzone i have ever played, which all worked fine first time. I have tried with no rules, just relying on UPNP, then added 2100 tcp, then tcp/udp then added the other port then tried using virt server instead, then tried both at the same time with both tcp udp. all possible permiatations have been exhausted....its not my port rules that are the problem.

Again, tried with UPNP set to 0 and set to 1, tried changing the ports in the config to different ones that have succeded with other games. I understand with regards to UPNP delay and tried host/stop/host again, and again and again. that is not the issue either.

Firstly, i do use static IP on my network as other apps i use are ip dependant, but i think you will find that my router does not need or even have an option to choose which ip the port trigger comes from, it allowes the port for any and all computers in the network that wishes to use it.

Somehow 20110320 QT and only that version is failing to pass through my router....and its not my pass thru settings that are at fault, I cant say what the cause is or i would fix it...but i can say what is NOT the cause.

Good write up tho, thanks much for trying, im just sorry it isnt a quick and easy noOb error .

Edit: virtual server does use an ip address but it was correct at time of posting, and virtual server isnt really the way to go anyway so pretty redundant, lol

Looks to me your router renamed port forwarding to virtual server. Do your have a Port forward screen under WAN? I believe you said you can host other version of Warzone. One rule in your Router is all you need for all versions of Warzone. However you host other versions of warzone, keep your router with the same setup, at least until your figure out what the problem is. In other words if other versions open port for you then keep doing it that way. If one version does not work, leave your router alone, its not your router then. You can have as many versions of Warzone installed as your want.

I have Master installed (file name warzone2100-master_20110320qt.exe). I can host without any problem and my setup is simular to yours, Windows XP SP3 and Comodo Firewall (Firewall only, comodo anything else disabled). I think I covered everything in previous post except I should have noted not to use Wordpad to edit your config file. Use Notepad or something like Notepad++ or TedNpad, etc. The only other suggestion I can give is start over. Delete your Comodo Firewall rules, the version of Warzone your having problems with and the config, start over. (Perhaps it will fix what your overlooking or perhaps fix a glitch during previous installation.) I do have a issue with the last Master, fonts are a little messed up, but the game works and I can host with it. Good luck.

Edit: one thing you can do if you want to forward the port manually and not sure how to do it. Host game with the version of Warzone that does work (with UPnP=1 of course). Go into your router and see how the port is forwarded to the specific computer address. You now have the perfect example if you want to do it manually.

I went and deleted the rule to forward port 2100 in my router. I found that miniUPnP for Master 20110320 does not work. The game only works if you forward the port yourself. A ticket has been created.

awesome work mate. ill get into that a bit later just got home from work and wanna eat and sent the kids to bed e.t.c ;)

ill piddle around with the virt server thing again.

just as a happenstance ill also take a peek at comodo, i use the whole package and i remember when way back i had another problem with ports because comodo changed to stealth all ports by default and it wasnt very self explanatory. couple thousand people flooded the forums for that one. i recently upgraded so it might be on again.

Big thumbs up :lecture:

i dont have the savvy to diangnose a miniupnp type issue

Not really. The bad news is we did not need to discuss all that. You originally stated you wanted to host a Lan game, you don't need miniUpnP to work, you don't need to open port 2100 on router, nor do you need to use DMZ mode of your router.
NoQ wrote:To play on LAN, you don't need to forward ports, just join the other computer's IP instead..
Like NoQ said, If you only want to Host a Lan game then you Host with one computer. The other computer you click join game. On the next screen you have two options, Lobby or IP. Select IP then enter the internal address of the host computer.

The Good news is now you know how to join a Lan game or internet game :)

Sigh....
Yes we did need to discuss it.
I been trying to tell you, i know exactly how to host and join a game in a lan, i have done it countless times, what im trying to say is that its not working properly in this particular release and only this release, because the person who hosts the game whether they want to or not still tries to publish the game in the lobby and that in this case it slows down the game to unplayability even before you press the start game button. it just keeps retrying as in the pic i posted in fourth post.

I know it makes no sence. im not being a noOb here. In order to play a LAN game with THIS version of warzone for some reason unknown to me as it does not fit normal logic, but the DMZ needs to be activated.

honestly mate for once its not user error, lol
