lil bit of help understanding versions pls

Post by GiGaBaNE »

ok so basicly i use the latest stable to play campaign, the latest master to multiplay (would do campaign but saves dont work).

now my questions are; what are these qt builds, whats the difference between master/qt and finally which would be best as my daily play qt/master as far as bug hunting is concerned.

also, im curious as to why there are so many version types.
master, alpha, beta, stable, git, qt.

until its explained, i cant really get my head around why there isnt only 2 versions. last stable and development version.

Qt version is a project of rewriting Warzone2100 using the Qt toolkit. The "Alpha" term is used to describe master snapshots available for download on the official website; "master" is the very latest version available in git, that is, it's warzone2100's future; "git" is not a version, but a version control system that gathers and organizes all patches into the actual game; "beta"s are unavailable right now, but they will be when some sort of 3.0 will be almost ready, and they will be closer to 2.3 than to master/alphas.

The next beta will most probably be based on master, both 2.3 and the old 3.0 betas are a dead end at this point.

ok i understand a bit better now. with this QT...is that what we looking at as the main roll out in years to come, or just a experiment to see how it goes?

minor grumble. when installing QT version it hijacks My Documents\Warzone 2100 master for its config which means you cant run QT and master on the same machine i guess =/

QT "IS" master. The future of master anyway. The old SDL version is going the way of the dinosaurs. You should only be using the SDL version if the QT version isn't working for you.
In general, if you see glowing, pulsating things in the game, you should click on them.

You can use both versions on the same machine, you can also specify a new config directory for one or both of them
Just add --configdir=path/to/directory and make sure path/to/directory exists, and it will use that one, instead of the default. You must do that every time though, so it is best to use a shortcut with that line in it.
and it ends here.
