I've posted this idea before, but this was before the implementation of Sunburst and Flak AA.
I have yet to try sunburst properly, but I have decided that Flak AA is utterly useless. Its splash is far too narrow to hit VTOLS which normally fly 2+ apart anyway. Its ROF is awful so that you can hit about twice for each VTOL run. Its damage is distinctly average so that a single turret will struggle to take down a single VTOL no matter what body. And it's pretty expensive. Its upgrades are via cannon which would be good news for cannon researchers except that it is totally useless.
So, my idea was to change the idea of flak (I have no programming experience so I have no idea how viable this is..) into something similar as incendiary artillery or bombs. When you drop an incendiary shell or bomb, it will burn a radius around the impact site visualised as little fireballs all round, which last a few seconds.
Real life flak tends to hang in the air, so if it is technically possible, I think it'd be great if warzone flak could also hang in the air for a few seconds and do damage to any VTOLs flying through. It seems to me the easiest way to do this would be to have incendiary Flak. So after a shell is fired, it causes a radius of fireballs (preferably coloured black, like in real life), which cause gradual damage to any VTOLs that fly through it.
I think this would add a lot more variety to AA while making Flak more useful and realistic. Plus it's like in your face to those incendiary bombers...

Nice idea. A short burn time (one or two seconds maybe) would pretty well simulate the effect of large amounts of shrapnel flying through the air. The flames coming from the plane could resemble the resulting engine problems...

I like this idea.
This is why some features aren't implemented: http://forums.wz2100.net/viewtopic.php?f=30&t=7490&view=unread#p87241

Yes this idea sounds pretty awesome if it i possible to implement.
On a side not i think it would be cool if VTOL death scenes were more epic, as in crash landing in stead of blowing into pieces in mid air.

Maybe if the pieces of the VTOL kept the same horizontal velocity until they hit terrain or went out of bounds. Along with fiery smoke or something.Wisler wrote:Yes this idea sounds pretty awesome if it i possible to implement.
