I'm wondering what programs are used to create animated 3D trailers that you see on intros for games.

depends on how good you want it - epic or just run of the mill??

if you want in game stuff - FRAPS isnt too bad... or if you want to go from scratch any 3d package ( either free based or paid based , again depending on how deep your pockets are). so there you have it, a very short simple list. you wish more, speak with rman or one of the 3d gurus we have on here... :lecture:

Well most studios out there use autodesk maya, but blender is a very capable free alternative and I use it for all my 3d stuff.
Any 3d animation package will do, really (although they all have a learning curve and require skills to do anything more than simple objects)

I'm gonna jump on the wagon here and say Blender. :) It's a very powerful 3d modeling program, witch can be used to make alot of things, it even has it's own "game engine". And best of all, it's free! :D

Check out "big buck bunny", a studio made it using Blender :)
