WZ2100 FPS, anyone interested?

Post by HEXUS »

Hay guyz, I've been gone for a while, but I'm back, and I had an idea, after developing some skills in the Source engine.
What if someone (in this case, me and anyone who would want to help) made a Warzone 2100 First Person Shooter?
I even had some ideas for a plot:
You play as a soldier for The Project. In short, you have to fight your way to accomplish whatever objective you may need. These may be infiltration objectives, such as blowing a defensive gate so an attack force can get into a base, or more offensive, such as riding into combat on a tank, blowing the enemy vehicles up with rockets, or helping take out infantry harassing Cannon vehicles.
About halfway through, the Synaptic Link tech would be discovered, and you'd get an upgrade to Cyborg armour, and eventually Super-cyborg, allowing you to use heavier weapons.
It's just a concept, so it won't go far for now, I can imagine.

You can start with checking out the "drive mode" that is already included in the game, but not yet considered anything but a cheat due to multiplayer incompatibility. With enough luck, you could probably use it to make single-tank missions which may get rather close to the FPS concept.

This is indeed a very interesting idea .. and it can be developed in so many different ways. For example, a team may involve both the regular way of playing, and within it another player can be controlling a tank or cyborg, or a group of these, to achieve whatever tasks. Apart from that, scenarios maybe developed in order to facilitate a better playing experience this way, in which controlled units are to achieve specific tasks and goals as you suggest. Very interesting :)

But are these only dreams, or are they "developable" with the resources our most cherished developers possess in terms of time and energy, and interest of course?! :hmm:

.

Fully developed Drive or Pilot Mode (along the lines of its PS1 WZ implementation w/Battle UI) would be enough to make this a reality. Everything else can be done with extant mapping and scripting. The idea was first presented in 2004 in extensive detail before the source was released. The rudementary state of the aforementioned "Drive Mode" is really the only drawback right now.
