User comments and voting in addons

Post by NoQ »

:hmm: Why not allow users to comment approved (or maybe even unapproved) maps in addons.wz2100.net?
Maybe it would also be possible to make some sort of user votes? Critics' and users' opinions are so often different :)

And maybe a map with a good user review could be approved without reviewing? ^^ (Well, some technical review should be still necessary, since the map may break the game, have licensing problems or even include some malware o.O)

Yeah, that's been on my to-do list for a long time.

The only reason I set up the reviewer system at all is because I needed people I trusted to verify that the maps being approved wouldn't crash the game or something. Then I figured it wouldn't be too hard to let those people rate maps. I've been meaning to let other people rate/review maps, but since it's less urgent, I haven't found the time to implement it yet.

Dont trust anyone ;)

But seriously :) good question and good idea Hao

by the way I will try to post something to addons when I will have my PC back..

But I am afraid I will be destroyed by negative critics.. that is why I didnt post anything there yet..

Critics and Voters sounds really good :) but those people would have to be really trusted and objective in thinking :)

Good a do-to-list you have Zarel :)

You must be logged in to the forum to rate addons. The "Anonymous" user happens when your login times out on the forum, and you submit the review.

I assume his first question could be answered as "false" and the second as "true."

Ouch. Is there any way to find out who could have done this to me and why, and what should i do with this power?? :o

Well, i'd rather ask on IRC for these personal matters and reviewer's secrets, but ... well ... i want to ask something more general here. When Zarel was here, i had a [totally irrational] feeling that any such technical question can be directed to him and he'll explain everything in a clear and gentle manner  Though i think i didn't use this very often. But is there such a go-to man now in the project?? (:

One more wish i have for addons.wz2100.net

I've just put up a little categorization in my own thread, and i wish addons had something like this as well. Probably some sort of tag system needs to be introduced. Addons is growing too big already ;)

I think adding categories has been talked about before, but I can't find a thread on it :(

That's a nice thing you did in your map thread :)

I've been thinking of similar things. If you and mero ever upload every map you've made to addons we'd have a lot of reading and scrolling to do to find a map :o

I'd like to see a filter set-up for both user tags, and pre-defined categories. The way you have your thread organized has me thinking of user added tags. I think pre-defined categories are in the works judging from the evidence of a Maps and Mods section.

Pre-defined categories could be similar; filter view according to:
  • Max. # of Players in map
  • map dimensions
  • # of oil resources
  • name of mapmaker
  • license
  • campaign map
  • challenge map
  • multiplayer map
  • rating
  • # of downloads
  • graphical mods
  • balance/tech mods

One more idea. I'd like the addon description the user writes to be cut off after several lines (or words, or symbols) on the main addon list. It seems to be unfair that some maps occupy much more place in the list then the others, which usually has nothing to do with their being good or bad.
