Grim.wz on a Mac?

Post by iMac »

OK, I tried adding the grim.wz mod on my Mac. The only trouble is that there is no place to put the file. I know it goes in the mods/global folder, but there is no such folder.
I then tried to create the mods/global folder & put it in a warzone 2100 folder. Problem is I have TWO different places to put the folder & files. I attached a screenshot of both folder views.

The top folder views are in the Warzone 2100.app itself. You can only access those folder views by right clicking on the Warzone 2100 icon & going to "show package contents". I can see all the files/folders within the Warzone 2100.app but I have no idea where to place the grim.wz mod.

The bottom folder view is the Warzone 2100 folder in the "Application Support" folder.

When I placed the grim.wz file inside various folders within those two locations & started a game, nothing would happen. no gfx changes. I just ignored the files.

Another question.

I cannot add "--cheat" or any other "--" command. If I right click on the Warzone 2100 icon & go to "get info", I can then change the file name "Warzone 2100.app". but when I try to add the "--cheat" it asks me if I want to change the file name extension. When I click yes i can't start Warzone. The Warzone icon changes to a regular folder icon. When you click on it opens up like any regular folder. it doesn't startup like an application. I even created an alias & added the "--cheat" & it still doesn't allow me to enter debug mode when I start Warzone when clicking on the alias & starting Warzone.

The only way to start cheat mode(or any other mode that requires the "--" command) is to change the debugmode=0 line in the config file, in the Application Support/Warzone 2100 folders.

I attached another screenshot of the "--cheat" when added. The first Warzone on the left is the original application. The second(or middle) Warzone is the alias(or shortcut) with the "--cheat added" The 3rd Warzone from the left is a duplication of the original application but with the "--cheat" added on. The folder view shows the Warzone.app program as a file, alias, & folder(even though it is really a program). Mac OS even warns me that by changing the extension it will make the application(Warzone) appear as folder.

God I hope someone can understand this. It is very difficult for me to explain these things clearly, as I have typing this for an hour now just to make sure it is readable & understandable.

The mod goes into that applications folder in your home directory. "Warzone 2100/mods/global/grim.wz" will be the filename.
Then you need to make WZ load that mod on startup. This is the part which leads to your second question: You need to add a "--mod grim.wz" commandline parameter. For how that works, there should be some Mac specific info on the wiki. I don't know anything about how this works.

I have no clue as to where I should stick the file still. I don't have a Warzone 2100 home directory like in Windows afaik. There is something close to a home directory, but not the exact same thing. The screenshots have text that I added to help visualize what I mean

Has anyone been able to get this mod to work on OS X? I guess the devs don't own a Mac, lol. O well, I think there is maybe only 2 people on these forums that use a Mac anyway.

I attached more screenshots to help visualize to you what I see. They are in the order as to be viewed. I hope this helps.

P.S. Yes, lav-coyote, I do know about the cheats in os x. I made that entry into the wiki myself.  ;)

In the first screenshot you shot this "Application Support...Warzone 2100" folder. That is the "home directory" I was talking about.

Ok, so i now have the mod/global grim.wz in the Application Support/Warzone 2100 folders.

Now what? It still doesn't load grim.wz. I see the original gfx.

ummm... ok i think i know what the problem may be...

open up that grim.wz file ...  it is a zip file - 7zip or whatever you use...    look in the texpages folder...  double click on the tertilesc1hw.png.... does that look like the grim textures or the original....    now is there a file called tertilesc1.wz    the one with out the hw  in it....

let me know.

Make sure to use "--mod grim.wz" as a parameter as well btw.

Ok, I opened it up. It is the grim textures. There is no file called tertilesc1.wz

P.S. Sorry for the slow response. I'm feeling under the weather. Thanks for taking the time helping me. It is really appreciated.

OK, I copied the file & changed the name. It still loads with the original textures.

I also re-zipped the grim folder back up to, "grim.zip" & then changed the ".zip" extension back to ".wz". So it looks like grim.wz again. But still nothing works. So I changed grim.wz back to a folder view like it was before I had re-zipped it up.

I attached a screenshot of what the folders/files currently look like. Do I have the folders/files named correctly?

- Scott

P.S. If any of the previous screenshots I have post are causing any problems/not needed anymore, they can be removed. It is just that I'm a very visual person.

Start with "--debug all --debugfile warzone.log" and attach the resulting file. I want to check whether the mod given on the commandline is actually loaded.

Ok, where do I add this "--debug all --debugfile warzone.log" ? Because when I add the "--debug all --debugfile warzone.log" to the file name "Warzone2100.app" (so now it looks like this "Warzone2100.app --debug all --debugfile warzone.log") OSX asks me if i want to keep the ".app" extension or change the ".app" extension to a ".log" extension. Also when I clicked on the "Warzone2100.app --debug all --debugfile warzone.log" it would open up my log console but not warzone. It read it as a log instead of the game & it didn't create any warzone.log anywhere on my system. I checked the "Applications Support/Warzone 2100" folder but found nothing.

When the above didn't work I also created an alias(shortcut) & added the "--debug all --debugfile warzone.log" to the alias. It looks like the same thing as above but is a shortcut icon. It would start warzone when I clicked on the alias but I can't find warzone.log anywhere. It seems to ignore those "--whatever" commands.

I must not be adding any of the "--whatever" type commands in the correct places. Does os x recognize those commands? I am still going to figure this one out.

Alright, first of all what version of wz do you have? If you have 2.0.7 then in the home folder go to ~/Library/Application\ Support/Warzone\ 2100/config and add to the end of the file the --comand you want. On the wiki http://wiki.wz2100.net/_detail/user:map ... ache=cache I think that should wark for macs and pcs.

ok... seems i was confused. you dont do -- you just edit existing varibles like debugmode=1 to enable cheats and edit the other stuff like screen size. sorry if i confused anyone. i dont think osx recognises -- commands. you can not use them by creating an alias.
