I've had this problem ever since I downloaded the game. Battle for Wesnoth and TORCS run fine, so I know this can't be a video card problem.

maybe, I can not tell you anything because their is Linux, and mine is Windows!

may be an issue of the program as having downloaded the version "WINDOWS" to "LINUX" ...

I don't think you understand... Windows programs can't be run at all in linux. It wouldn't start up and then simply not work.
