An idea came to my mind..
What If units and buildings have possibility to rise an energetic dome which would protect them from destruction
Not for all the time of course, it might be made that can be rise for few seconds only, or to have health toolbar too like buildings and units.
It of course should be transparent and cool looking
maybe flashy ?? 
And It could have separate turret ot building to generate it
