Play some sound on player's joining

I often have the game i host hanging in the background, when i wait for a player to join. So i'd like to hear some sound when someone joins. Right now i have to look at the game every time. Messages have sounds, but join/leave events don't. Thats not good imho.

This is a good idea. Use a voice to say something like, "A new commander has joined the fight." I volunteer my voice! :wink:

The new commander left the fight.
Woops, The new commander is back again.

Even though there's the new tool-tip feature that shows the host's name and maps, people still keep jumping in and out, maybe they didn't like someone in the room or maybe they didn't know the map (people new to the game). I think a (special) *beep* sound would suffice. :)

Although I wouldn't mind the units responding more. The Truck would maybe say "Yes Commander, It will be done" or "I'm on it, Sir". And Attack units could say "Sir, yes Sir"...

"Player 2 has left the fight."
"A new commander has joined the fight."

You could also do "A new commander has joined the fight as Player 2."

Or you could have the voice only activate the first time a unique IP/hostname/player name joins and/or leaves the game. This can prevent an annoying series of joining and leaving. You could also implement and auto-ban feature that prevents players from leaving/joining the same game more than x-number of times.

A short jingle would work, too, though, as you've said. Think of AIM/MSN jingles when someone joins or leaves.

I actually already did this, but it isn't in the repo. It plays pcv480.ogg & pcv481.ogg on enter / leaving.
Not sure if it will be put in or not. :hmm:

I have an excellent sound idea!

instead of using the chat sound, there is a sound i believe plays when he game is over? A sort of squeak. use that.
