The #warzone2100-lobby IRC channel sometimes shows games being hosted on very older versions like 2.2.4 and 2.3.0 .
While the hosts may be aware that there may be newer releases, my guess is that the majority are unaware since not everyone who tries the game passes by the forums or drops in on the IRC channels.
My suggestion is,
Have the lobby server itself inform hosts (or the others on the Join Lobby menu) about the newer versions that are available immediately after the system message "Welcome to Warzone! Your game is now listed in the lobby server". They could be informed about both the stable release as well as the release candidates. if they're already on the stable release, then only mention the latest release candidates that they could try.
EDIT: These hosts who are hosting older versions of the game mostly aren't exactly logged in on the IRC channels, nor are they regular forum visitors. My suggestion was to have those "News Updates" on the game MP hosting screen, therefore hosts (who are not regulars on IRC or the forums) using older versions will know when a new release is out. Something like a bot that joins these games, posts a message and leaves the game (just a lame idea), or whatever possible and convenient way there is.

Are you sure you understood my suggestion? Because when I tell random hosts (who aren't on the IRC games channel) that there is a new version out, they seem very surprised.Zarel wrote:We already do this.
I just launched a MP game on 2.3.0 and I didn't see any such message, so exactly what is it that you already do?

We tell people to upgrade for 2.1/2.2.
For 2.3.x we don't say new version is available, if you are running a older one. That is already planned, but things got in the way of finishing that.

and it ends here.

Oh, I didn't try older versions than 2.3.0. But thank you for clarifying that.

It doesn't do so for players playing on versions 2.3.0 and newer...Merowingg wrote:Yes I am a witness they already do so

But I'm glad it's working for gamers on the 2.1 and 2.2 releases.
