Interesting, as long as the shape is positioned in a coherent way considering the need for tanks to overcome obstacles with ease (the lower treads should be positioned in the rear, and the higher ones, in the front) :)

I'm wondering how it'd look with more details :hmm:

I, myself, like the idea, regardless of the similarity to WWI tank designs :wink:

Jorzi...I think its waste of polygons and trises,you cant see those details in game because you cant zoom that close and it would make pc lag for players that dont have high end computers...

Jorzi is making those models for AR which wants to make the modles look nice, not optimize them for weak computers.

Who ever tested all the AR models in-game at once to see if the lag is so significant? Maybe it will, situation at which we'll have at least two options: Adaptate the graphics engine so it can proccess the models correctly, making an effective use of hardware, or squeeze some "unnecessary" polygons out of the existing models.

Adding to that, is the fact that our artwork isn't strictly limited for WZ2100, it could be used as assets for modding other games (C&C: Renegade comes to my mind, it'd be awesome to have a renegade mod inspired by warzone, more awesome even than the Red Alert 1 mod, A Path Beyond that already exists) or even make new briefing videos, or more detailed artwork, or simply practicing and sharpening our artistic skills and senses.

Who knows that no one will ever start a remake of the game, despite of the odds?

We are artists, and art makes us feel alive. I don't blame you for thinking about our work in such practical, productive ways. We are, of course, trying to ally our artistic expression to the actual possible uses for it, definetely, but the simple matter that it possibly won't work exactly how we're doing it, isn't gonna keep us from producing high-quality content for one of our favorite games.

We are still betting that the game will handle our detailment levels. If it happens to be unable to do so, we will find a way to solve it :wink:

I must ask that you try to focus comments on the appearance and possible Real Life counterparts' relation of the models instead of the possible graphic proccessment demand of it (this last should be ideally done by someone who really knows the game's engine and can foressee its limits, no offense).

Sorry for the long, slightly generic comment :P

On my Radeon X800, the lag is significant even with the current models.

Shadows on or off?

We should take into account that the graphics engine in the current state isn't very good at handling more detailed models, even with a good graphics card. I think that some changes are needed, since there are plans to implement normal mapping (or at least I've heard that the only reason why we don't already have that is that there is no material that uses it, so we're producing the material).
If the staff isn't going to implement normal mapping, as well as work in the direction of allowing the game to make better use of more detailed models, we of the AR project need to know that so that we at least render the normal maps' relief into the diffuse textures. We need to know what kind of material you need, otherwise there is no real sense that we make all the procedures to render high-poly models into very low-poly ones.

We need to know if the staff is going to improve the graphics engine in the future, or if we need to reduce the geometry of our models. And we need to know if the decision to improve the graphics engine depends on our progress or not.

Right now we aren't very motivated to continue our efforts into adequating our artwork to warzone because we don't really know how much priority the staff gives to our work. And I won't even speak again about the need I see of an official art coordinator (I've already did that some time ago)...

This is getting a bit off-topic, probably it'd be best to split this conversation to a different topic, if it continues growing.

Thanks in advance for your attention.

I agree, perhaps flip it around so its like the Mark V tank.
This style of tracks has always been my personal favorite, just looking at the design I too always get the feeling that they could just drive over any obstacle..

I think WWI similaritys are irrelevant... just because its an old design that does not mean that it cant look good attached to a futuristic body. I think that a lot of the old stuff looks like a lot more interesting than modern designs... and ware would a game be if it wasn't interesting?

Everything that I read on this forum, and the more that I learn about how bad I am at model making, the more respect I have for all of the contributors and devs that work on this game.
For things like this, I think that artistic freedom is much more important than fidelity to the original art work or the demands of spectators.

All devs and contributors are volunteering there time to better the project, and they are allowed to have as much fun and or indulgence as they want! Did your mother ever teach you;
Your mother wrote:"If you don't have something nice to say don't say anything at all."
Well your mother is right, except substitute nice for constructive and you have it! Complaining about things unrelated to the art is unproductive, and not at all constructive in this thread.
So in short please Make suggestions about the art, and not demands about other unrelated things... and by the way, I eagerly await your contributions;

All I can say about performance right now is that the polycount per tank will be 500 at most (turret ~100, body < 200, propulsion ~200. This is very lowpoly compared to modern rts games so I hope the warzone engine will be able to handle it.
The medium tracks are 98 tris per side if I remember correctly, and they will be like the mark V tank, but with modern suspension.

Have had some other stuff to do, but I finally managed to get some decent updates together.
I also tried to correct the color values on the flamer texture.

Looking good so far, but missing a roller, isn't it? There should be one in the back where the track turns to run forward.
