"Don't read books; keep spamming"
Just curious: why is this new captcha accuses me of spamming every time i log in to IRC? Suggestion: I think this "stop spam; read books"; label should be removed (though captcha itself is a good idea)

If you can, install one of Pidgin or KVIrc, they are feature rich IRC clients. Both of them make IRC easier to handle.
And you won't need to input any captcha. Or be called a spammer.

Fine, whatever. Just get an IRC client, pronto!

Re: "Don't read books; keep spamming"
Those captchas use scanned book texts for their images, so by solving them, you help the computer "read" the text (that's the reason for the two words, one is already known, and if the user gets that right, it's assumed the other one will be correct as well). And it's supposed to stop spam by requiring a human to solve it.hao wrote:Just curious: why is this new captcha accuses me of spamming every time i log in to IRC? When someone tells me "stop spam", i assume he tells i'm a spamer.

The spam in "stop spam" is a noun, it is used as a slogan in this case, "(let's) stop spam". A command would usually be written with a verb, as in "stop spamming" (or if a noun is used, it gets some form of specifier, like "stop your spam", to indicate that it's not used generally).

The CAPTCHA on webchat.freenode.net was added by freenode staff not warzone (to deal with spam attacks on other channels like #freenode). FYIhao wrote:Just curious: why is this new captcha accuses me of spamming every time i log in to IRC?
I recommend KVIrc over both of those, best to try multiple IRC clients to find one that suits your needs the best.Zarel wrote:Eeek, no.

KVIrc is fine, but the point is that you should be using an IRC client for IRC, not an IM client like Pidgin.

Pidgin is useful if you next to IRC use MSN, Gtalk, Facebook and other chat networks.Zarel wrote:KVIrc is fine, but the point is that you should be using an IRC client for IRC, not an IM client like Pidgin.

I didn't say it wasn't useful; I said it shouldn't be done since it lacks many of the more useful affordances of a dedicated IRC client.
You're right, though, Pidgin is good enough if you're just going to hang around #warzone2100-games and chat. Unless you plan on using it as an IM client, though, you may as well get a dedicated IRC client.
