So, we could assume a remaining population directly after the nukes of ~ 233 million in the US. However, then there was the starvation, disease, etc. Let's go optimistic, and say that only killed half of the survivors. Then we have ~117 million people in the US, total. However, if the nukes cut the population to a quarter of its original size, then there would be a grand total of ~175 million people before the starvation, disease, etc. In this case, there would be a mere 97.5 million people left when the collapse ends. This is being optimistic. Assuming the concentration of people in cities was 98% of the population... and suddenly we have waaaay less people in the US.

Then, to make matters worse, their are wars over dog food and between project and nexus (including nexus's minion armies paradigm and collective) there are bound to be casualties (assuming not every tank and borg is high tech and remove a human pilot from danger) that coupled with lack of once common place technology would mean that there would be alot less people who knew what to do, so mass migration to mountains or other countries might happen, dropping american population furthur... Yup, Armageddon sucks ^_^

o.0 current population of the us is barely over 300m, according to the recent census.

and im fairly sure in any all-out-war regarding mutually assured destruction in the world today, we would lose considerably more than that..
Seeing as we have a ton of nukes sitting around... and im not really sure how much of an intercontinental ballistic missile defense we have, but im fairly sure its not enough to withstand a huge nuclear assault.. pretty much every major city goes boom >.>
