New Unit Rank system!!! :D

Post by codybuff10 »

Hey guys, im in the military and i was looking at the rank system in the game and i noticed alot of the ranks are mixed up. Is there a way we can implement ACTUAL military rank? THAT WOULD BE FREAKIN AWESOME!!!! like ill tell you the ranks we have here United states Army: Private, Private First Class, Specialist, Corporal, Sergeant, Staff Sergeant, Sergeant First Class, Master Sergeant, First Sergeant, Sergeant Major of the Army, Command Sergeant Major, Command Sergeant of the Army(my fav. Rank), Then you have the Commisioned Officers: Second Lieutenant, First Lieutenant, Captain, Major, Lieutenant Colonel, Colonel, Then you have your One, two, three, and four star generals. I will attach a photo of the rank system. Here is the link, i couldnt upload the photo :( http://chavezjrotc.com/US_Army_Ranks.html

Glad to have a military man amongst us. :)

IMO, it is possible to change it, but that would mean changing the way things have been since over ten years now. Maybe it will be taken to kindly with everyone's support. Question to the veterans: Did the rank system exist in the original WZ2100 or was it added much later?

Very informative, thanks codybuff10. Is this rank system specific to the Army or is it a general rank system that is used in the Air Force and the Navy as well?

I kind of agree with you, its hard enough just to get a unit to "Hero" rank

The Rank system i described, for the MOST part, is the same in all branches, except in the navy. I wont go there (bunch of wimps) but As far as the Marines, and Airforce, its almost identical for the most part. I Thought this was a good idea, and i dont think that two negative comments should automatically rule this idea out. I think its something that should be voted on. Like i said, i was looking at the rank system and alot of the ranks are mixed up. like you can get a staff sergeant before you can get a sgt on the game but of course we all know that its the other way around :D Just saying. Ranks like "Command Sergeant Major" are highly decorative (involving 3 chevrons, 3 rockers, a star, and two olive branches) and would be considered more of a desired achievement than the rank for "hero". Know what i mean?

I definitely agree.

Just curious to know how would you sort the order of the medals of the Unit Experience. Not by the names, just the symbols.

Or if you're suggesting a complete revamp, which ten ranks would you recommend and the appropriate medals. Keep in mind that the medal is displayed when the unit is selected.

The Navy uses different ranks from the other branches for a couple reasons. 1. The practical: Captain is much higher in the Navy than in the other branches, as you might expect of the commander of, say, a carrier. The other reason is giving the commander of the ship a boost when they work with the other branches. 2. The not-so-practical: espirit de corps. Just like Marines never doff their caps to anyone(ever), the Navy has their own, unique rank system. Also, what they do is unique. They stuff a couple hundred people in a very limited space, and tell em to get along, or else. This raises problems that the other services (Excepting the Marines) essentially never deal with. That said, most ranks are essentially equivalent (E.g. Admiral= General, Vice Admiral=... Major General?). I'll stop talking now, since I really have better things to do than argue over which branch of the military is better, and the techinicalities of the military.

As only eight of the ten ranks have a medal, I think we can safely eliminate SERGEANT MAJOR (distinguishable feature from MASTER SERGEANT is too small to notice) and FOUR STAR GENERAL (too many stars to accommodate).

How about the following changes to experience medals based on the US ARMY ranks,

1) Assigning Professional the Veteran medal instead (SERGEANT)
2) Assigning Veteran the Elite medal (SERGEANT FIRST CLASS)
3) Assigning Elite the MASTER SERGEANT medal.

Food for thought:
The project staff and most members may probably like to leave the order of the medals as they are for the following reasons,
a) They are in an order that is probably easier for a gamer not familiar with US ARMY ranks to understand.
b) This would force a paradigm shift, even if it appears very easy to implement. Imagine if someone suggested to the US ARMY that they should reshuffle the order of their medals. You know what I mean?

Honestly, my main objection is that "Four Star General" isn't really as memorable and concise as "Hero". Ditto the other ranks. Warzone ranks are designed mainly to be practical. They're also more about experience than authority.

Well sometimes any change is better than no change at all. If you make the 3 changes you mentioned in your reply then im happy. But what are the chances this will happen?

Just to correct you if you are mistaken, I can't make the changes that I mentioned into the game as I am not a member of the Project Staff. I was only trying to help refine your suggestion so that it would best fit into WZ2100.
codybuff10 wrote:But what are the chances this will happen?
To be very honest, chances of that happening are only as good as how good you will be at convincing everyone that the changes you suggested are better for the game. Simply stating that it is better isn't going to cut it. It never happens that way. I hope you understand what I mean. :)

However, Zarel did make a good point about the practicality and about ranks being about experience, not authority. If you can prove him, or any other project staff member, wrong on that, you're golden.
