Command Turret Attack Sound Effect
Is it just me, or does the sound effect for the Command Turret's attack bother anyone else? When I first read about the Command Turret, I envisioned a targeting laser with, if any effect, a kind of humming: certainly not the wicked pulsing sound I hear every time I pick a target.
Altering the graphic effect of the attack is probably beyond me, but I wonder if there's an easy way to swap the sound effect with something of my choosing.

Being the old game it is, I think all of the sound files deserve a good revising or at least cleaning up. You have to remember that they're using sound technology from the 1990s, in a lower-tier software production facility which would date their sound to the 80s... Thus, like I said.

Not sure if they do. But if you're right, you do realize that it's got to be top notch, recorded in an environment similar to a recording studio, don't you? And who's going to do it?DTSX wrote:Being the old game it is, I think all of the sound files deserve a good revising or at least cleaning up.

There are plenty of professional level sound files available out there. I personally have access to an extensive library of sound files.

Interesting, and you are sure that the licenses are appropriate for use with WZ2100? Or are they your own creation?DTSX wrote:There are plenty of professional level sound files available out there. I personally have access to an extensive library of sound files.

Do you have any CC-BY-SA-3.0, CC-BY-3.0, CC-0, GPLv2 (or a GPLv2-compatible license), or public domain sound files that would work?
If so, by all means, send them here!

I had found this website some time ago, it has some cool radio military talk for free use under certain restrictions. I was planning on proposing this here. Which was one of the reasons I wanted the whole manned/unmanned issue sorted out. Anyway, the license does not seem very clear as to if it can be used in WZ2100.

Nope, incompatible with Warzone.
Key part is "You cannot: Resell or distribute the sounds 'as they are'." That's a restriction not present in the GPL or CC-BY-SA.

Re: Command Turret Attack Sound Effect
Okay! So licencing is out of question now. Let's discuss how it should sound like!
IMO it should sound deeper nearly like some continuous humming. Something like the 50Hz/60Hz electric humming you get sometimes from ungrounded record player. A question I have is about the sound architecture of the game: Does the game play samples only or is there the posibility to hold a sound a tell him when to sop playing a sample?
This probably is the main problem with the sound of the command turret. It is playing the same sample again and again all the time until the target is destroyed. Having a larger sample played and maybe looped as long as the the turret is firing, could make the thing less annoying.

Re: Command Turret Attack Sound Effect
Just for laughs, I generated a 60 Hz tone in Audacity and tried a couple effects on it. That is about the extent of my ability, but all I was looking for was a more neutral sound for the Command Turret anyway. The results are attached as Ogg Vorbis files, although I still have the original WAV files and they're easy enough to generate from scratch with the settings below.
(Addendum: At the prompting of a friend, I took another listen with my crappy speakers. I can hear it when I listen with a no-frills player, but my music player does something that mutes the sound. Anyway, 60 Hz is probably too low for general use, even though it sounds awesome through my earbuds. Oops.)

Sounds chippy!
I like the first and the wahwah most! But that was nearly exactly, what I meant! I was playing around with basic64 to make some, but I wasn't nearly as satified as with yours!!

Re: Command Turret Attack Sound Effect
As I added above, 60 Hz might be too low for general use. On the other hand, 120 Hz sounds unpleasantly like a fluorescent lamp going bad. I didn't like 70 Hz and 80 Hz through my earbuds, but they sound relatively okay through my speakers. Probably what the really needs to happen is more than one frequency that sound good together. The theory behind all that is quite over my head at the moment!

Re: Command Turret Attack Sound Effect
70-80Hz can get annoying. Anything over that frequencies need to be ballnced well, so they don't get too loud in overall. I'll try my best tomorrow! Best place to make noise is in my car...
It's 2AM over here, so you'll have to be a bit patient.
Question to the devs or anyone who knows:
What is the rate of fire in miliseconds?
As the turret always shoots in the same interval, it should be possible to match it with and if the created soundfile is longer, we would have a delay possibility for the last shot like : wah-wah-wah-wah-wah-wahrdingeling

Hello, what's this? While searching for something else, I came across this thread from 2007: "New Sounds for Weapon-Systems?" I wonder whatever became of that.
