Problems with multiplayer lobby

Post by prolix »

Hello forums

As this is my first post I want to thank everyone who has worked on the Warzone Resurrection project, I had a PC demo of it from a magazine back in the 90's and thought it was the best strategy game around for its time. I've been following the project since I heard that it was open sourced and am very much enjoying playing this great game.

I have a few problems in multiplayer though. The issue I have is with the lobby sometimes telling me the connection failed or it could not initiate a connection to my IP address. I have searched the forums and docs and have verified that my ports are forwarded from firewall to internal machine, if it helps any I have a home built linux firewall/router doing NAT and have forwarded port 2100 tcp to my internal machine that has warzone on it. I have only hosted a couple of games successfully so far because of this.

Sometimes I host a game and it shows up in the lobby but after people don't show up I get suspicious.
So I found this link http://wz2100.net/lobbyserver and can confirm sometimes even when the lobby says I am connected it has dropped me after a short while. Some people in my game even tried to quit and then reconnect but they didn't show up (lol) so I assume that my game had dissapeared from the list.

This is a huge issue for me being able to play warzone on multiplayer, I have played all sorts of games before that needed forwarded ports without problems so I am wondering if there is anything up with the lobby server. I just seems a bit flaky to me right now to get a game going. If you need any more info please ask.

Again, many thanks for working on this great game.

I have the same problems, but not to that extent. About 90% of the time my servers remain in the lobby.

It seems quite intermittent, as I said I have hosted a few games successfully, maybe yesterday was a bad day. Will post back if I get more problems. Thanks.

The server is in Germany.
It is possible it is a temp. routing issue, or something else along those lines.

It also has issues with people with high ping times.

You may want to try a tracert lobby.wz2100.net and see what it spits back the next time this happens.
and it ends here.

I am in the UK so if it's a server located in Germany I should have an ok ping. When I play on German servers with Quake3 it is normally ok.
I will bear this in mind if I have more problems and post back the results. Thank you.

I have similar problems with my MacBook Pro (Leopard). I have never successfully gotten a game up into the lobby. Almost all of the time I get this message: "error while communicating with the lobby server: operation timed out". Once I got this message "failed to retrieve a game id: operation timed out". Strangely enough, my little brother on an older mac (upgraded to Leopard) can host just fine.

I have also seen the "failed to retrieve a game id: operation timed out" message. I have not had problems with lobby again since, just a few in game freezes but that is a different problem I expect. Maybe it was a bad day and there was just a plain old network problem in between me and the server like what Buginator said. To others, make sure your port 2100 TCP are forwarded from firewall/router to your machine that is running warzone or it will never work in lobby, it will only work if someone else hosts a game if you are behind a firewall and do not open the ports. Here has more info http://guide.wz2100.net/faq#Multiplayer . I will post back if there are any more issues with lobby. Thanks.
