Re: SUPER UNITS
Naval transports and aircraft carriers I can agree with, but conventional units? Super-artillery? Ehh, not really something I'd want to support.

Re: SUPER UNITS
I have an idea, how about instead of bridges, (though it's really unrealistic) tunnels. That way A. there's little problem with bridges working, and B. easy way of instant travel. Tunnels would be really fragile systems, but can take you anywhere once an engineer builds it.

Re: SUPER UNITS
hmm true about the elephant, but it does have value, a whole team bunkered up in an elephant is hard to clear out, especially when the driver uses its size to his advantage -eg using the wall to take a rocket instead of it sailing into the bay

Re: SUPER UNITS
OK i was away for TWO DAYS! and all this happens???? wow....
O. K. you guys arguing that this is unrealistic and comparing it too todays millitary? well you shouldnt..
this is warzone 2100! stressing the 2100 part of it. its in the FUTURE! come on! in the day and age of this game these things should be normal and used. and when you talk about how they affect morale? THEY DONT!
its a GAME. we are truly and really fighting against ai units, WITH ai units. get that? ai= ARTIFICIAL intelligence. there is no morale except that of you, the commander, and in multiplayer your enemy. but it doesnt affect the units.
hmph... this is hard work

Re: SUPER UNITS
Hi,
one thing you seem to have overlooked among the suggestions for SUPER UNITS. The part where SUPER UNITS could carry VTOL recharge pads. They could be like aircraft carrier but possibly land based. Like the flying aircraft carrier in Dr Who.
A carrier would be slow and vulnerable to being swarmed. But you wouldn't put them at the front line.
I like the idea of building them like structures with trucks. That avoids the problem how they could have ever fitted into the VTOL factory. Make them BIG and carry 2, 3, 4 or 6 pads. Given their size they wouldn't pass through tight places or steep inclines. The VTOL pads could also only work if the carrier is stable.

A mobile VTOL platform? What for? The rearming pad is a cheap and quick to build structure. Why spend time and money on a crawler thats gets pounded by each and every artillery unit on the field? The longer this discussion lasts, the more I believe the whole fuzz is about little boys love big toys.

Yep. Little boys do like big toys, no doubt. Heavy equipment like giant bulldozers you can hold in your hands in the playground sandbox at first, then Super Units in vid games that defy all logic - & even good fantasy. They also have a pronounced streak of Pinocchio I've noticed, like a thread in the Showcase BB that is chock a full of very, very, long noses.
But the role of Jiminy Cricket is a total loser in such instances of cyber life, if not in post fact society.

Re: SUPER UNITS
1) You need to take a Truck with you, build the platform and protect the truck while it is doing that. And all that time the rate of fire for the VTOL units will be dead slow, dead as in the truck dies.Corporal Punishment wrote:A mobile VTOL platform? What for? 2) The number of VTOL platforms is limited. If you start building them all over the map you will run out. So you have to start demolishing them again as you go along.
3) Build VTOL platforms can't retreat. So you build your 6 platforms near the enemy and try to attack. But you are too weak to destroy him. He swarms the plaforms and destroys them. The time and power to build them will be lost. A mobile platform on the other hand can retreat and repair.
4) Because we love big toys.

PS: one could also have a real "aircraft" carrier. As in it comes with a number of small aircrafts that take of, attack the enemy and land for refuling. Like cyborgs of the VTOL kind.

I must confess I had a fondness for Big Bertha artillery in TA (1997).mrvn wrote:......

You're right. Well, there are moderators to split off-topic posts to another thread. So I wouldn't worry too much about off-topic posts if I were you.

I agree.
This is also a very good point. Bigger units will mean much slower speeds than the already medium pace of track propulsions.Corporal Punishment wrote:A mobile VTOL platform? What for?
