Why so many versions?

Post by Boris »

This off-topic conversation was split from Re: Retaining experience upon death

1.Be cool people.:) warzone is best game for us!? Yes? No? Anyway,..Its a nice idea Zarel but units with more and more experience must be stronger.
Exemp...Special=1000 body points, armor=100, hero=1200 body points, armor=120.. Yea?

2.What is this? Every months Warzone version 2, 2.1, 2.2, 2.3, 2.4 itd.. Why you release new version of warzone? I think, game need 1 or two years for complete. Change campain, maps and more (see topic- time for new campain). Not only some stupid request from players. Ok?

3.Strategie games is best for me. but game like warzone in 1998 is not exist.
Today some game have good options but warzone is almost same like after 10 years.
Thats all for now if you know what i mean...

:hmm: There's a Damage Taken column with stats for each experience level in the guide. Is that what you were talking about?

Something released is better than nothing released, right?

Frequent releases help bring out the latest must-have features to the game much sooner, than having to wait for years for a complete makeover, IMHO.

It seems like you gotta read that topic a few more times.

We don't have the right to put pressure to our developers. They are human being like every human in this world. Remember that the WZ2100Project is not EA, Activision or other game company.

They develop and try fix bugs and errors and add news features with their free time.

However, if you want, feel free to contribute to the project, you'll be welcome

Sorry for gettin' a lot off-topic, but that's just my opinion about that.

He's right Boris, all of the WZ2100 staff are volunteers, they usually only work in their spare time after their regular jobs.

So be cool Boris :)

We know what you mean, you would like to see a major makeover of the game instead of minor tweaks. It is happening, but just taking a little longer. There are bugs to be caught in the current version, even if you tested the game and reported any bugs that you found, that would be be a good way of contributing to the wz2100 project.

i know what boris means, its been long time and warzone still is almost like it was when it came out.. if that 3.0 is a big make over of the game or even like a new game or version of it on its own.. then thats be great..

I've assumed that the intention is to bring a ten-year old game up to date with the latest technologies, not to create another game. The reason for doing this is simple - WZ 2100 is still one of the greatest games of its kind. What the devs are doing for us is an ongoing recognition of that fact.

Only one other game - that I know of - has deserved, and received, this loving treatment, and that is the original Privateer, which is the greatest game of its kind.

And I am very lucky in that I love both...

Bugs not that important in new releases? That, I suspect, is because you have only played the new releases. And more importantly because you regularly download the new release. Hence, as a result of this, you are effectively shielded from the bugs which would have otherwise inflicted you and your experience with Warzone.

Bugs are a big deal. Bugs are huge deal. When I first started hacking on Warzone it was not uncommon for the trunk release to crash every 10-15 minutes. But, just a day or so ago, I played two hour-long games with the current trunk release. Not a single crash.

A stable build is not something to take for granted. You do not feel it is important as you have never known anything different. And, so long as we keep fixing bugs as soon as we are made aware of them, there is a good chance that you will never know anything different.

Despite what I have written above I do find your comments comforting; the fact that the game is now stable enough for stability to be taken for granted at least indicates that we've been doing something right!

Polemically yours, Freddie.

"Must" is a strong word.

This is an open-source project. As the refrain goes, if you want different maps or a new campaign, make them yourself.
