Underground Hangar/Rearming Pad for VTOLS

Post by JDW »

All credit goes to Roux Le Corps for his comment on which this idea is based,
Roux Le Corps wrote:should have an underground hanger style building, load it up like a transport, ten max or so, watching them raise outta that would be cool ^_^
Desirable features (only if the game can support it):

1) Underground (Not sure if this is possible on maps, It can even be a building above the ground)

2) Covering a bigger area , something like a 3x3 or 2x2 model rather than the current 1x1

3) Limited number of VTOLs that it can accomodate - Ten or maybe more.. as Roux Le Corps mentioned.

4) The VTOL can be seen going in and then disappears graphically, and emerges out when it's rearmed.

5) Destination Point - The location where VTOLs will depart to when rearmed, exactly like what all the Factories and Repair Facilities implement.

6) Animation of a Platform on top opening up as the VTOL lands in and then closing up. Maybe even have a helipad "H" design on it (Just a cool animation to look more detailed, not a necessity)

7) Graphics showing parked VTOLs inside and some closed shutters, not animated.

8 ) Blinking lights on the platform, wherever appropriate.

In the X-men comics, the X-mansion has got an underground hangar right under the basketball court.

One of the developers also mentioned that the current design of VTOL Pads takes a huge amount of space.
Per wrote: Once upon a time (not that long ago), vtol pads were ordinary 1x1 buildings that had to have 1 tile space between each other. This was really annoying to build and took a huge amount of space. So I made it so that they could be built anywhere there was an open space, allowing them to be built by dragging strips of them, and making it so that droids could drive over them. However, this lead to ugly graphics glitches, where vtol pads sometimes disappeared entirely. That eventually made me want to go back to making vtol pads ordinary buildings, just a bit bigger, so that they would not be so annoying to build and take so much space.
So, my fellow Warzonians, What say you?

Perhaps remove rearming altogether.

:D Yeah, but this is a community MW95, so we need to work together and by ourselves, with volunteers of course... Volunteers care more about the project, than any paid developer ever would..

I cant figerout how to make textures and blender is a bit too complicated for me,still figering out but without tutorials because if i learn with tutorials il forget in two or three days...I need to learn by my self because its an fair learning and not "cheating".

That's the spirit

For Blender, try beginning with some basic models, like

http://www.blendernation.com/tutorials/ ... g-a-heart/

http://www.blender.org/education-help/t ... /modeling/

http://www.blender.org/education-help/tutorials/#c806

There are some readily available models here, you could play with them for educational purposes, check the licensing issues though. You can also submit your models there...

Although I do agree with a change somewhat with how VOTL units are rearmed, I don't think a 'hangar' is the way to go. Especially not with an opening and closing roof, it would be unnecessary effort.

I think that the purpose of Re-arming Pads was to balance the game by forcing VTOLs to move away from the target for an arbitrary amount of time. This would give the attacked opponent a chance to recuperate, thus making it tougher for an attacker with a huge squadron..

Without rearming, the game would become much easier, and shorter in duration as VTOLs can be devastatingly quick. That, plus there's also the realism angle to re-arming.

Totally agreed. Removing the VOTL rearming would be just silly. The game wouldn't be about strategy, it would be about the race for VOTL technology superiority, and that's not good. Bomb, bomb, bomb.. Win.

I had a feeling that an opening and closing roof was asking for too much, that's why i mentioned it as not a necessity. It could be an open roof building. I was imagining an underground basement with sliding roof rather than swinging open.

Anyhow, if a hangar is not your thing, then it's back to the drawing board for me... :hmm:

You do realise that to make the game add underground structures that you can see into will need map terrain tiles changed to alpha then back again when structure is destroyed.
Im not sure if they will end up as black or white tiles instead of alpha either.

It would be better if is there an like an entrace at a wall...Like in Star Wars or like in Star Treks space station hangars...the vtol should fly in and after 30sec or a minute of re-arming it gets out,it should accept atleast 4 to 6 vtols but it should be the lastest tech in WZ2100 and very expensive to research, maybe a 2500 to 5000 resource points...

I had thought of that, but since I had no clue about mapping, I didn't want to say anything
Good point there..

Did you forgot when we make buildings that there is like a tile that is covering the map tiles, like vehicle factory, command center, command relay,etc...buildings! :lecture:

Did you forget that? :annoyed:
