Improvement priority: Game Engine or New Features?

Post by JDW »

Everyone has ideas to improve WZ2100, however I would like to know what is the community's opinion on what needs more focus

i) Game Engine and Graphic Details enhancements

OR

ii) New Weapons/Cyborgs/Structures/Technology

Obviously developers can't work on both together and get more work done quicker. So tell us what you think should have higher priority among the two. Please pick only one.

NOTE: Version 3.0 is due in 8 weeks :D

In my opinion, developers have been very open to implementing new features, which is good. And they have now reached a stage where the Game Engine and Graphic Details just needs a bit of polishing around the rough edges.

New features such as "New Weapons/Cyborgs/Structures/Technology" are generally extremely rare. We have a few things coming up, such as gates, naval units, jetpack cyborgs, and dedicated air-to-air weapons.

But otherwise, we're not generally amenable to adding a ton of new stuff to Warzone. I mean, the tech tree is kind of full, and new stuff is often difficult to balance.

Engine doesn't support them yet. I suppose that should be on the list, though.

I don't think they have enough people to do either of those.

Highly doubtful. Maybe 20 weeks is more realistic.

i think that the engine should be sorted out first, because when that is improved, it will allow for more features and cool things in the long run i would have thought.

We need I-NoD(one of devs) for that. Mainly he was working on updating the graphic engine.

Define "sorted out". You don't "improve" an engine once, and suddenly every feature ever requested becomes simple to implement. It doesn't work that way. You have to spend a long time rewriting the engine for each such feature request, and most of them aren't worth that time.

When we say "engine rewrite", what we're usually saying is "it's a good idea, but it's too much work and I don't want to do it, but if you do it for us we'll take it."
