Source Jam

Post by HairyLee »

Had a bit of a faff around with FL instead of studying this afternoon & thought I'd share a little taster :)

No musical instruments in the year 2100? Not a problem as long as you have the technology... :P

Very nice idea, and sounds interesting as well!
You could play around with the speeches also - and end the music with an "Incoming laser satellite strike... BOOOMMM!!!" :D

I wonder how you can develop this - the current length is obviously very short - I really think it's worthy since it's a very original idea.

Well done! :)

Thanks Olrox!

Yeah, I was listening to one of the songs Powzone posted here & saw that he'd used some samples of Nexus' voice & I thought "man, I could probably make an entire song out of WZ noises!". I also thought a mortar would make a pretty good kick-drum :P

The obvious challenge is trying to get a melody and a bassline in there, since most of the sounds are percussive (explosions, bullet ricochets etc). I'll need a lot more time to mess around, but I'm thinking I could maybe take the noise of a flying VTOL or the sound of a truck building, crossfade it so I can sustain it & then manipulate the pitch to make the different notes.

When I've fleshed it out a bit and made it longer, there could definitely be some room for voice samples - there are a lot of different ones to choose from :)

Thanks man!

Ok, not a massive adition length-wise, but the concept has evolved a fair bit:

- I've managed to mangle the Power Generator's 'hum' into a bass

- There's a breakdown...

- ...And some extra added evil :P

Feedback/comments/suggestions welcome :)

Haven't listened to it yet, just wanted to comment that if you're planning to make ingame music out of the wz sound effects, it could become quite distracting from game play. At least I'd constantly try to check where those explosions come from :P

Hehe yeah, I wouldn't use it in-game - I just thought it'd be a fun concept to try out! Am also thinking it'd be pretty awesome as menu/lobby music :)
