Now to create that other thread...

You bet. Appreciate the shout out. Doesn't get any better than doing what you love purely.macuser wrote:Thanks for all you hard work!

- Regards, RVI already have some pics selected that I personally like & will create a seperate thread here in the Lounge BB to share a sampling so you get an idea of what I meant when I said my shooting aesthetic is the exact opposite of what was called for in practical application as possible WZ assets.

Just a quick up-date.
I'll start up-loading archives this coming Sunday.
First archive looks for sure to be Struct Tex 1. More will follow with regularity: "Ski 1", "Veg 1", "Ground 1", "Rock 1" and so on.
Appreciate the patience folks.
I see this as an ongoing project over the next couple months so that there will be an archive series: a # 2 & #3 for each catagory. It'll end up being 100's of pics I'm guesstimating.
They will also be straight outta the camera files .... no manipulation on my part. Just putting them in labeled .rars
That's it for now.

Well, how I see it is, IF any of the bits 'n pieces I offer in pic form can serve as dross lead then it will be the alchemical artistry of the community's 3D artists that will transmute it into WZ in-game gold.
Some Sky scaled dimensionally to 20% of original file size. Originals are 3264 x 2448 @ 5mbs ea.

Per: I'm glad to hear it has that appeal.
It's reassuring, in way, to know it's not just all in my head.
Kuky: Nice shot.
Has an other-wordly feel to me. Makes me think about the Hubble Telescope pics & the idea of manipulation in PS to create shots that suggest Nuke Winter or Post Apocalyptic skys. Hmmm. 'Course that can be done as well with the pics above... not to mention compositing a particularly cool sky to an interesting mountain range at a distance, for example. 'Course, I'm just providing straight raw shots & others will be free to do whatever along those lines or any other sort of transmutations that suite their artist vision.
BTW Kuky, I've noted throughtout the bbs your many interests & gifts and your enthusiasm to explore & dev them all and I think that's terrific - keep it goin !

@ Zarel:
I was assuming I'd just upload to the space you provided on your server in the past but in assembling the first .rar archive of Struct Tex 1 to upload today (which is weighing in at over 300mbs) I thought I'd best check in with the org & some rough numbers.
* Struct Tex 1
* Sky 1
* Veg 1
* Ground Tex 1
* Ditto series "2"
As this progresses the sum total is probably gonna approach 2 GIGS of files.
So... let me know just how I should go forward and then I'll do the first archive upload..... & go from there over the coming days-weeks-months.
- Thanks, RV

Second archive, Sky 1, almost ready for up-load. It will be over 200 Mbs. Though I've yet to get a good enough & interesting night-time shot. Maybe for Sky 2.
I was thinking I might try shooting some water end of the week. I haven't to this point. I could add it to the Ground 1 archive in the works or make a fifth category, Water 1.
I'll check back Thursday about the whole up-loading question in my previous post. Feels the need to make music for a spell to soothe my savage breast & will thus be absent the neighborhood till then.

Re: Photos of Textures for New Terrain Renderer ?
Unfortunately, we've been having some problems with uploads lately (throughout the whole site, not just the forum), and they still haven't been fixed yet.Rman Virgil wrote:I was assuming I'd just upload to the space you provided on your server in the past but in assembling the first .rar archive of Struct Tex 1 to upload today (which is weighing in at over 300mbs) I thought I'd best check in with the org & some rough numbers.
In addition, the Guide file manager has the same upload limitations as the forum, which I believe is back down to something like 10 MB again.
So, temporarily, you'll have to find another external file host. Might I suggest FileDropper?

Thanks for the responses, gents.
All right then. Yea, FileDropper is always in the top five rated of such hosting sites and I've used them all. For most stuff they work ok but the last time I used them for files of this size it turned into a time-consuming PITA even with a broadband connect. Argggg....
Oh well, may be a different experience this time around. I'll give it a shot and start posting the links here later in the week.
BTW... On ground pics for the new terrain renderer and how it works.
I'm experimenting with Macro shooting carefully chosen subjects which is taking a page from the old-school techniques of classic cinema FX. I'm doing this for a number of reasons. On my trip all the overlooks featured thick forest and wouldn't work. Then I thought about shooting from choppers (hot air balloons really wouldn't work for many reasons) and I would need loads of money and time to travel around the country finding the perfect spots to shoot from a chopper - away from metro areas and their infrastructure, agriculture's cultivated geometry, forests, etc. etc. and that is entirely unfeasible ergo my current Marco shooting experiments. May work, may not. Worth a shot. It will likely be the last archive I upload.

I'll be uploading the 300+ mb Struct Tex 1 archive first to see how this hosting will work out before going forward with the other archives that are ready like Sky 1, etc..
I cannot speak to the usefulness of these pics for all WZ artists but I'm pretty sure Berg will like at least some of these Struct Tex 1 pics because it was his specific feedback that shaped my eye for apt subjects to shoot.
