"Halo" for placing buildings is cut off on uneven terrain

Post by donblas »

I can't figure out how to screen shot in warzone, but it is easy to reproduce. On the first level of the campaign, placing any building in the lower right part of the opening "bubble" The green halo for the buildings only shows up for half but I can build fine.

I don't remember it use to doing this in old warzone, was this an intentional change? Something on my machine only?

In original, there wasn't that halo...

And, the terrain adapts to the terrain in most cases, but it isn't necesary to adapt the terrain to the halo, because it simply is an schematic for displaying your construction queue.

Maybe I'm mistaking it for another game w\ a halo...my bad.

I like the halo effect, I just wish in the case where part of it would get cut off due to uneven terrain, it would be raised slightly off the ground. It just looks weird IMO.

I understood the term, don't worry.

Hmm, a little raised? Maybe good idea.

Clarification: by halo I think you mean the transparent item preview above where you might built it turning either red or green.

Correct. I couldn't think of a better word for it.

We've usually called them "blueprints".

We call them "blueprints" or "building previews".

I've honestly never heard of them being referred to by the term "halo", since they don't resemble bright circular rings in any way. Wikipedia seems to make it clear that all halos are round and involve light in some way.

Screen shot is F10, image will be located in my documents \ Warzone 2100 2.3 \ screenshots. Add screenshot to your ticket if you like.

I usually call them holograms, so "halo" isn't so different. :P

Wikipedia is nerdy. And can be useful sometimes because of that... But not in this way...

Of all names here, this one makes most sense, imo.

And why would you need to name them at all???

Holograms, or holos for short, could work. But changing the 'o' to an 'a' doesn't work. It's like referring to "bugs" as "bags" - no one's going to know what you're talking about.

Would a homeless bug be a "bag bug"?

Don't think so...
