Pathfinding issues in RC1a

Post by zimboptoo »

I just replayed the first couple missions of Gamma campaign and ran into a very large problem with pathfinding. Half a dozen times in the first mission alone, one of my tanks got hung up on some piece of terrain and would not move on its own. About half the time I was able to unstick it by driving something else past or by landing VTOLs on top of it, and once by commanding it to attack something else on the other side of the map, but the other times I just had to restart from a saved game. It was always full treads (the hovers don't seem to have a problem) and always on some sort of cliff edge.

Are other people noticing this in the new versions? Has some change been made to path-finding or movement? I don't remember it being nearly this bad last time I played the mission.

I'll put together some screencaps and save-games when I get home tonight.

The game has always had path finding / walking issues.
We are still trying to fix it better... :stressed:
and it ends here.

I only mentioned it because the actual unfixable getting stuck usually only happens to me every couple of missions, and last night it happened 8 times in one mission, pretty much any time I moved a group of tanks anywhere. At first I passed it off as coincidence, but I can't imagine there is such a huge increase in the number of problems without some sort of change in either the path-finding or the map.

I don't think it's a pathing bug - I think it's an unrelated bug.

i think its a bug with the map i have a map where the units get stuck allways at the same place no matter how often you play or reload.

You may be right. I didn't have nearly so many problems with G2 (an away map) but had the same problems in G3 (home map again). Though there's a possible confound: I had far more tanks moving in a large group during G1 and G3 (16+commander), as compared to a much smaller force during G2 (6+commander).

Also, during G3 a couple of my hovers got stuck, the first time that had happened, but I think it was caused by the inverted water thing.

Same problem in current trunk: first 3-9 campaign missions.
1. Killing everything.
2. Tanks getting stuck at the cliffs
3. "return to LZ" lol.
