Oversized Maps (Above 256x256 Tiles)
Warzone 2100 map pathfinding is getting much better since it was been released as GPL
AFAIK, map pathfinding in 2.3.x is much better than any older series (2.0.x, 2.1.x, 2.2.x)
But the max size of maps which the game accepts is 256x256 tiles
Why not make Warzone support larger maps, like 512x512 or even 1024x1024 tile maps (Map makers would love it) and keep improving it's pathfinding in these sizes.
I remember when it's was not good in 2.0.x in large maps and now in 2.3.x is much better.

I am in favor of this, I make my own maps and would love maps at 1024x1024. Can you imagine...?

That's the dream of any map maker
Let's wait what the WZ Developers think about this.

I love large maps. And wish they could be larger still. Even if this sort of enhancement is a down-the-road type of thing, I hope the devs will consider it.

Re: Oversized Maps (Above 256x256 Tiles)
This is already planned as one of the modifications in the "things that will break compatibility of savegames" list. It has been already suggested some times. The devs already thought about it and they are gathering more things to this list to make breaking compatibility worthy the trouble.
Also in this list is the increase of height range (it is already annoying to have a whole 256x256 map in the rockies with only 256 levels of height to play with, you have to use special techniques to deceive the eyes of the player so that he thinks that the map has more graduations than it actually do). This is trouble not just because the savegames compatibility break, but because of issues regarding the artillery calculations (I can't remember wether it's projectile trajectory or range, but anyway). Both those are already "TODO"

Yes, this is mostly a savegame issue. However, it is also the case that some calculations take more time when the map is bigger, which will make the game slower when playing on such maps.

Has anyone got updates on the latest developments and limitations on Map Sizes in the svn/trunk version?Per wrote:Yes, this is mostly a savegame issue. I am too, bigger maps = more detail = bigger battles = makes WZ more fun = WZ needs extra fun for better marketing

What Per said is the update. Until they can solve those issues, then the current max is the max.j0shdrunk0nwar wrote:Has anyone got updates on the latest developments and limitations on Map Sizes in the svn/trunk version?Per wrote:Yes, this is mostly a savegame issue. Tried finding the current max, couldn't find anything recent, all of them are very old posts.. I wonder if this calls for a regularly updated sticky..Crymson wrote: What Per said is the update. Until they can solve those issues, then the current max is the max.

Re: Oversized Maps (Above 256x256 Tiles)
i believe the max map dimensions = 250 x 250. untill some such code is changed, this will remain as is... unless i missed something
