Hey, come on... we are all seeking to improve things, right? I know that I'm not quite the right person to say anything about being smooth and kind while talking, but there's no real need to risk spawning an argument just because some misunderstanding.

We all have bad days, bad weeks, bad months or even years. Being nice even though someone has been a little rough can help this someone get through a bad time :)

Beat me up if I got it wrong :P

stiv wrote:* A Download page is kinda sorta the whole point to this affair
Hence why it'll be prominently featured in the home page, as well as the header.
stiv wrote:* Hiding it in a weird button that looks like it is part of a game screenshot doesn't make it more obvious
It doesn't look anything like part of a screenshot. Especially not now, with the screenshot toned down this much.
stiv wrote:* it breaks the UI metaphor where a button is used for an action (think Submit) and a tab takes you to another page (like Download!)
Downloading is clearly an action, even if it goes through a page first.

http://www.barebones.com/products/TextWrangler/
http://www.apple.com/itunes/
http://caminobrowser.org/

all have a "Download" button in the link bar that links to a Download page.

Well, I couldn't make it look nice as a floating button, so it's there for now, while I rethink the concept.

You are not the one who had to listen to a bunch of implausible arguments about why a download button floating off in space away from everything was better than a tab.

As noted, reason has prevailed and Download is back with his other tabby friends.

I have imagined that... I was talking about hard feelings :|
Implausible arguments are often characteristics of a stubborn behavior that originates when someone else shows you that you were wrong and says anything between the "See? Who was right in the end? Do you see how foolish you were?" lines. But anyway, you don't need to listen to my own reflections about that - this is again my natural instinct of searching for my own morality in outer minds, I'm sorry if I offended you with that.

Anyway, I like the way that the home is looking. Nice work.

Looks good so far. But the header looks a bit "wrong" and it should be a little bit smaller in height (20~40px less). Also, we should may abadon the screenshots-row and replace it by the one picture, which may has a slide show (and the picture should be smaller) And the stuff like "Game Features; About..." should be a real small navigation left or right to the intro/teaser.

Also, we should may think to give the header another color than blue or some tweak it somewhere else, because this "all blue" (like now) feels monotone.
We all have the same heaven, but not the same horizon.

the new work looks nice.
on my homepage i also worked a bit with semitransparent backgrounds and much background pictures, like you have the interface with like 70%-90% opacity so its good readable and behind it a picture that shines through the interface.

Indeed, it is fine work, Zarel; up to your usual standards of excellence. :D

Artists understand process, non-artists can only on occasion appreciate end results if those ends happen to align with their own obdurate notions. I imagine Lord Darcy in the opening scenes of "Pride & Prejudice" (an artful phrase both tart & smart, pure Austen & the alliteration a bit of a homage.).

As for some of the commentary in response herein, there are smidgens I would declare quite insufferable but for that delightful caveat - them that can create, create, them that can't find an unenviable solace in dastardly critiques.

Or as the Bard put it:
...... a poor player
That struts and frets his hour upon the stage
And then is heard no more: it is a tale
Told by an idiot, full of sound and fury,
Signifying nothing.

Here is small demo of hexagons variant, just to show that it's less boring than tabs (only draft).

Some comments for website draft, first, download button needs nice icon, maybe with OS symbol with link pointing directly to it's download? Or generic one, to make it more stand.
Also I would like to see titles of latest news in more visible place, maybe as column? Or in bar on top?
Someone suggested to drop these four screeshots on bottom and make that one bigger (could be smaller probably) clickable to see more images (lightbox or buttons shown on hover).
That bottom tabbar looks a bit out of place.
Best part of that page is that top part on lightblue background ("Read more..." needs some tweaking though).
Nadszedł już czas, najwyższy czas, nienawiść zniszczyć w sobie.
The time has come, the high time, to destroy hatred in oneself.

The header is roughly the size of the current header, and making it smaller would make the logo smaller than it needs to be, and hide more of the background-screenshot than it needs to.

Screenshot-rows look kind of nice... Let's keep it the way it is.

I dunno, "monotone" looks kind of nice. I can make the blue more transparent...
