The "daa-daa-baa-baa" Section.
Hi, I'm new here and hardly played the game, except for the tutorial.
Thought I might start this thread for the absolute beginners to direct them to the first things, etc.
Like, check this out... http://guide.wz2100.net/
Then there are questions. No questions too stupid to ask. Ask away!
"The truth shall set you free"....whatever...
Here's my question:
When I downloaded the game, I got a dialoque box saying that the video download was disturbed/interupted. Yet, there seemed to be no problem with the game so far, except the tutorial seemed extremely brief (20 minutes). Is that the whole tutorial, or did I miss some other parts of the video to the tutorial(in downloading)? Mmmm???

Re: The "daa-daa-baa-baa" Section.
When playing the campaign you get what are called briefings (if they are turned on) which is a short video sequence. When you download wz2100 you have the option to download it with or without these vids. Obviously you chose the without

Nope, that is most probably not right.macuser wrote:Obviously you chose the without![]()

Apparently there are issues with the server where the normal quality videos are stored. Try downloading the High-quality version if you want to see the videos, and search around for instructions on how to apply them to the game - if the briefing videos won't show up in campaign (where they are meant to be shown)
The tutorial is indeed very short, it englobes the most basic features of the game, but doesn't explain anything about weapon types, power usage, or any MP features. Perhaps that should be changed in the future, when other major priorities are achieved (I don't know which exactly are those major priorities but I do know that they exist). There are no videos in the tutorial, just audio instructions.
If you want to know the way to start a game in MP, so that you can survive against most situations, please refer to this more specific part of the guide: Early-game multiplayer strategy
For single-player campaign, I suggest you try getting used to by your own, and search for instructions whenever you are stuck in any part. If you succeed in learning by yourself, you'll surely grasp the features of the game more efficiently.
I hope this was helpful

You can download them manually, at:Oazu wrote: When I downloaded the game, I got a dialoque box saying that the video download was disturbed/interupted.

Place them in the same place warzone2100.exe is.
Yes, the tutorial is just the minimum information you need to play campaign. You can figure out everything else just by messing around in the first campaign mission (which has no time limit).Oazu wrote: Yet, there seemed to be no problem with the game so far, except the tutorial seemed extremely brief (20 minutes). The Guide goes into a bit more detail at the advanced stuff, but I should probably explain the intermediate stuff like how to research/design/etc

Re: The "daa-daa-baa-baa" Section.
Thankyou macuser, Olrox and Zarel.
I wonder if the fact that I'm on dial-up had something to do with the video's not downloading?
Even our broadband is pretty slow, although they are about to lay a new fibre-optic cable from California to New Zealand.
Anyway, I shall download those video's as suggested.
By the way, I am absolutely impressed with Warzone 2100! For freeware, it is totally amazing! Warzone 2100 could be the methodone to my Civilization 4 addiction
Also, I have got this freeware software that converts internet pages into pdf files and this is really convenient for online tutorials. So, I have turned the tutorial and walkthrough into files for my Warzone 2100 folder. Download at http://sourceforge.net/projects/pdfcreator/

Talk about dial-up... I went to sourceforge to download the video's. Except that it would take 1day and 2 hours to download. Ummm...do I really really need to download them???

You can play the game without videos, but it's not nearly the same thing. Given its size, I think that this delay is probably due to overload of the servers or something, maybe your connection is worst today? You can use firefox (or some download manager) to download it a bit everyday, if your connection is always the same speed and it always says 1 day and 2 hours.Oazu wrote:Talk about dial-up... Don't worry about it. Warzone is still playable without the videos. (You can even play while downloading! Be sure to use a download manager, though - you don't want to have to restart halfway through.)

Re: The "daa-daa-baa-baa" Section.
If you still want the vids Firefox has an add-in called "downthemall" which is a very fast download manager - try it. It works by allowing multiple connections to the server (if that is where the bottle neck is) so it might help and it might not.

Have you tried the 'low definition ones'?Oazu wrote:Talk about dial-up... I went to sourceforge to download the video's. Except that it would take 1day and 2 hours to download. Ummm...do I really really need to download them???
Videos are very cool for campaign, but I don't use them in multiplayer - I focus on other things and don't miss them

Oh well, might try the "down the mall" or "down them all". Worth a try. Then maybe let it download when I go to sleep. I'll see if that works.

it is called "downthemall" but is said "Down-Them-All".

Well, I have just completed downloading the video files on "down the mall", all 26 hours of it! I've put the file in: program files/ warzone 2100. Phew!
Now, all I have to do is learn how to play the game.
