Crash in campaign

Post by Jake-Slayer »

Hi all!
I have 2.3 beta 11a with Windows Vista, I load a saved game or start a new game in campaign after the load screen the game stops unexpectedly. This only happens in campaign. I found others had the same issue on other systems.

Very cool game - Kudos :D

Ok, there's a text file, called "stderr.txt" on the folder where Warzone was installed. Please attach it to your post, so that we can diagnose the problem (if you look at it, you'll see that there are probably some crash entries on the bottom of it explaining what the problem was).

Isn't Body14sup Body13SUP Wyvern? Why would it be loading in campaign... O_o

I don't know how to help you there. You weren't using any modifications before, to get MP things on Campaign, did you?

Your problem is that you have a mod loaded. Please unload your mod, and it should work fine.

Oh, yeah, I meant the same he was mentioning on his post (Body13SUP), which is wyvern. I just mistyped, sorry.

A ticket? Why, isn't the problem is due to a mod? aren't tickets for main game problems that some dev already accepted to fix?
:hmm:

Problem is the game is brain dead about mods, so it don't know when a mod is in use or not.
If you play a game with a mod, and save it, then at some point in the future when you load that same save game and you don't have the mod loaded it will crash.
It is also too easy to forget about mods in the autoload directory, and suffer crashes or other issues.

I imagine that the guy was using a mod that added Wyvern and probably other MP techs to the campaign. If you try to use without it, and got some of those items in your game, it's obvious that it'll crash.

I may be entirely wrong, but I don't see that as any true *problem*. Probably the savegames should include the mod that was active when the game was saved, that should avoid this kind of problems. I dunno if it's already planned, did you check that?

The only real problem is that the game crashes instead of simply giving the error message "You have the wrong mod loaded" - that, and it can't automatically load the right mod. Both are problems that will eventually be fixed, but in the meantime it's not really a bug.
