Megasman's Suggestions
Ok it would be nice to be able to change the AI difficulty level when doing a skirmish and to be able to pick an advanced base layout like: research geared, defence geared, power generating geared things like because i'm having an extremly hard time lasting more than 20 min. at the most with skirmish

You can do that already, that's what the AI difficulty sliders are for.Megasman1 wrote:Ok it would be nice to be able to change the AI difficulty level when doing a skirmish
You can have games to start as T3 and with advanced bases, but for this last option, you've got to use a map that supports it (all the standard maps that come with the game do). A better solution than making the AI weaker is to make yourself stronger.Megasman1 wrote:to be able to pick an advanced base layout like: research geared, defence geared, power generating geared things like because i'm having an extremly hard time lasting more than 20 min. at the most with skirmish
Read this to have an idea of how to stand a fair chance against the AI, for starters.
Hmm, are you serious about all that? It isn't that hard to figure out, I think.

You can't really gear a base layout towards research, or defense, or power (the only difference is the order in which you build the structures)... Advanced Bases generally has all the stuff you need for a base no matter what your focus is...

You mean standard AI kills you? On what map (1v1, 2v2, 1v1v1v1 ?) You're doing something wrong - try expanding faster and building more oil derrics.Megasman1 wrote:i'm having an extremly hard time lasting more than 20 min. at the most with skirmish
If you were talking about multiplayer, than lasting more than 20min is a common problem

What maps don't have T2 or T3 advanced bases?Olrox wrote:You can have games to start as T3 and with advanced bases, but for this last option, you've got to use a map that supports it (all the standard maps that come with the game do).

The question is why?Zarel wrote:Any map that doesn't have T1 advanced bases.Flank4 wrote:What maps don't have T2 or T3 advanced bases?
Bad maps, or something else?

Ok, I can't blame anyone who didn't work with WZ maps for not knowing that, so here goes the explanation:Flank4 wrote: The question is why?
Bad maps, or something else?
T1, T2 and T3 determines ONLY the level of research you've got when you start the game, no matter if you have bases or not, that depends only on the game settings (or possible mods that later this, of course...). Therefore, every map allow T1, T2 and T3 settings, because it only depends on the tech tree, which is common for all maps.
No bases, bases and advanced bases depend on the map only, it doesn't matter what your tech level setting is. When you make a map, you can add objects - features, buildings and units - and attribute those buildings and units to the players of your choice. A practical example:
You make a map with a bases containing 2 factories, full modules installed, 2 research facilities, 1 power generator, 1 HQ, 4 trucks, 1 Gauss Cannon Hydra Dragon Tracks, 2 MG towers and 5 Scourge Harpoints.
If you select the following options, you will get the following:
No bases: Your trucks only. Really.
Bases: All base structures -1 of each, if that doesn't make you have none of that type. You'll get 1 factory with no modules, 1 research facility, 1 power generator, 1 HQ and your 4 trucks. Nothing with attack power.
Advanced Bases: Every base structure with every possible upgrade, all the units and any defensive structures.
T1, T2 and T3 versions of the situations above: All the same, but you'll have more or less tech (that includes structure and vehicle upgrades, which doesn't add any new features to them anyway, just make them tougher).
If you have a LasSat placed on your map, you'll get it if you start with T1, advanced bases, it doesn't matter that you didn't even start to research anything. Structures and units depend solely on the "bases settings".
But, if the maker of the map didn't add anything on your map: everyone will loose instantly since there aren't even trucks. If he did place trucks, but no structures at all, it doesn't matter what bases setting you are using, you'll only have the trucks. Yet again: Technology (T1, T2, T3) settings don't depend on the map.
And you can't choose different settings for different players, the only way to do that is to edit the map so that only you (starting on the position of your choice) have an Advanced Base, and the other start with nothing because the map didn't have anything for them, itself.
I hope this was a good explanation
